Critical Role Echo Knight is Wildemount's Most Popular Subclass

Overall, I think the Echo power of the Echo Knight edges out the Invoke Duplicity power of the Cleric of Trickery. That said, I do something similar with a Cleric of Trickery. I run the perfect Illusion into the midst of a group of monsters and spam Word of Radiance and Toll the Bell. Unlike...

D&D General Do people like re-skinning?

LOL, nuance Max...it s a thing!😁 “Zen” is a shorthand for: “Meditative martial art“, in this context. Zen, used this way, is less a precise term, and more an evocative, indicator of the feel and mood of the character. Max, I don’t know your background, but given how much Zen,( in...

D&D 5E (2014) Kara Tur vs Tarkir vs Kamigawa vs Plane of Mountains and Seas vs Ikoria

Not being Kara Tur, is a large selling point for me. I’ve never accepted Kara Tur as a real part of the Forgotten Realms. I have never bought a Realms Kara Tur product, and in all likelihood, never will. Talk of the Mongolian FR trilogy is akin to talking about the Spell Sundering or...

WotC Comparing EN World's Demographics to the D&D Community's

The term you are looking for is Expertise. See, while you are adding a proficiency bonus of +0 to an ability check Intelligence: Statistics, (because you have no proficiency in that skill), real experts can add twice their proficiency bonus in 5e. Please, no need to respond: you are on my...

D&D 5E (2014) What official 5E content do you want to see more of?

Arcana of the Ancients, can help you. I would love a Big Book of Complex Traps. Every encounter where I have combined complex trap features, with monsters, has been fun and memorable. Module pieces like pre built traps or scenarios saves DMs time. I think it is an under served design space...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell-paths

Specialty Priests had custom: Armor/Weapon Proficiencies, Access to Extra spells, Extra powers, based off their god/theme. 5e Clerics have custom: Armor/Weapon Proficiencies, Access to Extra spells, Extra powers, based off their god/theme. 5e is more regimented as a system, so it might feel...

D&D 5E (2014) Wish and the requirement removal

Which is exactly my point, that one can overlook the fact the Wish spell duplicates a spell, and approach the Wish spell from the perspective of it duplicating an effect. The DMG has limited guidelines on the mechanical aspects of creating a magic spell. Presuming that most DMs running a high...

    D&D 5E (2014) Keeping Spellbooks Unique

My recommendation is not to do anything to dissuade PC Wizards from spell swapping. It is a rare pleasure. Besides, PCs sometimes withhold spells from each other. I would recommend giving out magical grimoires though. Have each grimoire contain a set of themed spells for a multitude of...

D&D 5E (2014) Wish and the requirement removal

Assuming the verbiage of physical requirements used in the component paragraph, in the spellcasting section is intended to be identical to the requirement verbiage of the Wish spell, Ovinomancer has correctly identified RAI/RAW. I enjoy the design space of emulated spell effects of the Wish...

    D&D 5E (2014) What 4th Level Feat for a Cleric of Trickery?

The lack of War Caster has not been an issue so far. Being limited to daggers as my only finesse weapon option, helps in keeping a hand free. 😀 I am torn at what to M/C into....too many above average stats and too many options. There is a Wizard in the party, so swapping spells is always...

D&D 5E (2014) Wish and the requirement removal

MarkB, is the above a knee jerk response, or are you trying to make absurd claims, as a strategy, to attempt, to discredit the argument? This is an question asked in earnest, (I can’t tell). A Fireball spell with a mile range, is a very lesser version of the Meteor Swarm Spell. As a DM, I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell-paths

Clerics are Specialty Priests. I am a big advocate of this style. Give each spell one or more Facet designations, and you can eliminate class lists all together.

D&D 5E (2014) Wish and the requirement removal

I generally agree, while I might allow case by case adjustments. Someone using the Wish spell to duplicate the Forbiddance effect with a duration of dispelled, would be fine. A permanent Haste effect, no. I would let a player add the effect of the Extended Spell metamagic power, though...

D&D 5E (2014) Wish and the requirement removal

Mark, respectfully, it seems as if you are interpreting the above quoted portion as if it read as: “you don’t need to meet any of the requirements in that spell, that apply to you”. Which, is a large inferential add for a single instance of the word “you”. The sentence: “you may take any...

D&D 5E (2014) Wish and the requirement removal

I am afraid, I must disagree with this sentiment. ‘Poorly’ written RAW, might differ wildly from the designer’s RAI. Internal cohesion of the rules is a factor. RAW might differ than RAI, and still work fine. Yes, I do think you can bypass Concentration requirements.

D&D 5E (2014) Wish and the requirement removal

😃 unfortunately, that would also allow changes to Range, so one could change the target for Spells with the Range: Self. Casting Spirit Guardian on someone else, via a Wish spell is fine, in my opinion. Saying the whole party gets the effect of Spirit Guardians, no way. 😃

D&D 5E (2014) Wish and the requirement removal

Well, to cleave as closely to the text, the clause: including costly components is a guide. Costly components appear in this area of the spell write up: Casting Time: 1 minute Range: 30 feet Components: V, S, M (fire and holy water) Duration: 8 hours So, I think it reasonable to limit the...
