    D&D and the rising pandemic

My spouse is a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Early, Thursday morning a parent of one of the children in her school died. The parent, had exhibited Covid 19 symptoms, and around midnight started to struggle breathing. The parent expired before paramedics arrived. To be...

D&D General A paladin just joined the group. I'm a necromancer.

Ancient views of what is ‘Just’ vary from today. Aristotle had no issue with slavery, for example. Just War theory of today, rejects Collective Punishment. So I am not sure what ‘mask’ you speak of. Congratulations, you are quoting a rules straight jacket, akin to Paladin alignment...

Unearthed Arcana Spells & Magic Tattoos: New Unearthed Arcana

Ghost Riders from the Sky, of course. Giant Chickens, for the Chicken Dance of Death. For Reggae you summon this: For Hip Hop, a sample of all the above. 😎

It is called The Eberron Campaign Setting, see the Undying Court. It has been out since 2004. Have you been under a rock, or under a roc? 😃

    D&D 5E (2014) Is 5e "Easy Mode?"

1e Magic Missile for the win, unless they had a Brooch of Shielding, then it was Dimension Door time, because casting spells in CQC was really tough to do by RAW in 1e.

Unearthed Arcana Spells & Magic Tattoos: New Unearthed Arcana

I’m going to leave this discussion here, so as to not derail the discussion of the U/A article. I sometimes play D&D camping, and like physical books for my RPG library. PDFs do not, in my opinion, do the artwork justice, especially two page spreads. DDB is not my bag. See Re- Issue/...

Unearthed Arcana Spells & Magic Tattoos: New Unearthed Arcana

FAKE OUTRAGE!!!! Plus some real annoyance. Sure designers change from edition to edition, but history and a company’s awareness of their products past, should not. It is like the fact, that through the various editions, the initial Monster Manual is not as user friendly as subsequent monster...

Unearthed Arcana Spells & Magic Tattoos: New Unearthed Arcana

Will it come with a “Tacky Badge”? Only if you buy the Platinum Version from Beadle and Grimm for $299.99 Sure, in the initial release of the DMG for 5e. If your default setting is the Forgotten Realms, and Thay has not been banished to some Alternative Realms, then rules for Red Robes...

Unearthed Arcana Spells & Magic Tattoos: New Unearthed Arcana

Are these Summoning Spells better then Conjure Woodland Beings for 4 Pixies, combined with a Tiny Hut spell? I don’t think so. A bard with the right Magical Secrets selections can use this tactic by themselves.

Unearthed Arcana Spells & Magic Tattoos: New Unearthed Arcana

Magic Tattoos have been a Red Wizard of Thay thing since 1e, though no hard creation rules, were apparently published. Then again, magic item creation in 1e was highly game dependent... I thought Dreams of the Red Wizards, from 1e, had rules for Magic Tattoos. Must have been a house rule, we...

Unearthed Arcana Spells & Magic Tattoos: New Unearthed Arcana

This is pure speculation, do these spells add to existing summon spells or replace them? The time might have come, when the D&D team says: “No more Conjure Woodland Beings-and it’s 4 Sprites, (& their spells) for 1 hour”. As for Magic Tattoos, I skimmed them, look fine, but after 5 versions...

D&D General A paladin just joined the group. I'm a necromancer.

Again, so do cats, and Killer Whales, and Homo Sapiens Sapiens, and a host of other creatures IRL. Humanoid zombies have around a 3 INT. Skeletons have a 6 Int which is Ape level. Zombies are just stuck in a cycle of eating, not much intention there. Skeletons are supposedly smarter. In 5e...

D&D General A paladin just joined the group. I'm a necromancer.

To be frank, a hunger to kill the living is a feature of most creatures’ sustenance practices. Outside of symbiotic relations, thing A tends to kill thing B and sometimes eat it. Cats and Killer Whales kill for fun, for example. Elementals can go berserk, and elementals do not need...

D&D 5E (2014) Using Magical Devices for Concentration

I have house ruled some items to work like this. On a Mac-Fuirmidh cittern, it has not been overpowered in my opinion, (even with Fly). The bard has had this item to close to 4 years now, so an extensive playtest. I would not make it universal, however. Case by Case seems more reasonable...

    D&D and the rising pandemic

Going back to work is not going to stop economic disruption. Restaurant wholesellers in California, are converting to markets, as the demand by restaurants is decreasing due to closures, but people need to eat, and the produce is going to spoil. Direct Payments to residents, debt forgiveness...

    D&D and the rising pandemic

Umbran, would you, kindly, share your sources to support this figure? No accredited paper, (I have seen), supports that figure. I’m not an expert, however. I imagine, if there was credible evidence, Howard Zinn, would have had some mention of it, in one of the versions of a People’s History...

D&D 5E (2014) Have we rebalanced the Champion Yet?

No, the game needs to be balanced for both games with Feats and Without. To me, that is a non controversial statement, that everyone would likely agree with. doc, you may not. Apparently, you seem to be implying D&D does not have to be balanced for the 50% of the tables that use feats. What...

    D&D and the rising pandemic

This is something @MoonSong, was referencing, Pres. Obrador, is personally acting as if there is no virus. Tests are taking a week, for results to come back, so at this point, L.A., is just waiting for the Delayed Blast Fireball to go off, and then we can start managing the damage. On the...

D&D 5E (2014) How to play an evil cleric

Or more likely, volunteers. History, is replete with persons who willingly sacrificed themselves for what they viewed as the ‘greater good’.
