D&D 5E (2014) D&D Magic the Gathering alternate magic system

Did you produce something on this? I was thinking to make a "planeswalker" class where you have to choose 1 colour and that determines your list. I'm uncertain if I would have a setting with only planeswalkers, or combine with other classes (particularly the mundanes), or if I'd allow...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Magic the Gathering alternate magic system

No I didn't ask for others to do the work for me. This is to share ideas for people that want to. And since you're being an A-hole you can take a report and a block.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Magic the Gathering alternate magic system

Yes definitely a lot of recategorisation. I also imagine quite a few extant spells in M:tG could be converted to a D&D standard without hopefully too much work per spell. I'd be tempted still to keep the spell slots and spell levels, just because moving to a spell point system would require...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Magic the Gathering alternate magic system

@Aelryinth it sounds like this thread is not for you. Yes it would require a lot of work. And yes it would change the classes significantly. That's the point! So I'm asking others if they want to share their opinions on how this would be done. If you don't want to contribute that's fine, but...

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Magic the Gathering alternate magic system

I actually wanted to try having specialists only be able to cast spells in their school. Then I saw how unbalanced the schools of magic really are... Would be a great way to do a spell expansion book!

    D&D 5E (2014) Deleting Bonus Actions

I am running a Shadow campaign, and it does indeed work well.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D Magic the Gathering alternate magic system

Talking about M:tG has me thinking again about the disappointment I had with the Ravnica guide. On a personal note, I enjoy 5e as it is, but as I've played a lot of it, I would absolutely love to try this with a completely different magic structure and set of spells. It's been a long time for...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D in the Grishaverse

I was not expecting to be as enamored with Shadow & Bone on Netflix as I was, but I was immediately hooked and really looking forward to them expanding the universe in future seasons. While watching, I couldn't help but feel that the Grisha powers would make for an awesome alternate magic...

WotC WotC Generates 75% Of Hasbro's Profit

Sure. But without knowing the internals, it's impossible to know what Hasbro resources are being used for WotCs benefit. This can be deliberate, for example retaining costs into regions with higher tax rates, it could be due to the difficulty of estimating the cost of shared resources (such as...

WotC WotC Generates 75% Of Hasbro's Profit

Back to the topic at hand, I'd be interested to see the sales and profit for MtG vs D&D. The profit margin for the brand seems extremely high even considering the context around the products. There can be a number of factors playing into this. One key factor could be the apportionment of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is witchbolt underated?

Thanks. I read over the word "initial" which changes things quite a bit. In that case yeah I think it's underpowered. If the ongoing damage scaled I'd say it's a pretty good spell

    D&D 5E (2014) Is witchbolt underated?

Where are you guys reading that the ongoing damage is only 1d12? My reading of the description is that upcasting affects the initial damage plus the ongoing damage.

Looking for the system with in-battle character progression

I don't know ow of any rpg that does this, but I think for it to work the players would have to choose the leveled up abilities first and they only activate at the appropriate time in combat. It could be quite a cool idea, especially for an anime themed campaign.

    D&D 5E (2014) More Interesting Archers (+thread)

I've always liked the idea of special arrows like the Thief pc game series. You could have broadheads that do more damage with an accuracy penalty, armor piercing that is the opposite, water arrows to douse torches, sparking arrows that can blind foes, bola arrows that can trip or disarm from...

D&D General Damage by class instead of by weapon-anyone tried this?

I've thought about removing STR and DEX to damage and then using weapon dice + class hit dice. So a wizard with a dagger? 1d4+1d6 A fighter with a dagger? 1d4+1d10 Etc

A First Look at 2d20 Fallout from Modiphius

Exactly as abstruse said. It's conditioning. A 1 on a d20 (or bloodbowl on the dreaded go for it touchdown - if you know, you know) feels like the worst thing you can roll. But as Morrus said, after a few weeks I'd adapt.

A First Look at 2d20 Fallout from Modiphius

I feel like I should give 2d20 a shot sometime. Psychologically roll under doesn't sit well with me either, but in play it may be fine.

D&D General Things That Bug You

Yeah. That's where I see the sneak attack come in. Lose hunters mark, and make them spike damage ambushes. It's the class that sneaks up and takes out the camp guard before he's had a chance to yell.

D&D General Things That Bug You

I think the ranger should be the class that gets sneak attack. Makes sense to me as an ambusher type role.
