D&D Open "The Soulbound Tomb" - anyone played it?

It turns out an upcoming con I'm attending (Gamex in LA) will offer the opportunity to play the 2016 D&D open adventure "The Soulbound Tomb", AL-legal. I don't know anything about it, or about the D&D open format, other than it's typically done at GenCon and is a team-based competition. Not sure...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone else think the Bard concept is just silly?

YES Especially when the DM asks the bard "what do you say" in response to vicious mockery or bardic inspristion. 99/100 times the response makes the game less immersive instead of more.

    Champion advice

Good call. Yeah unless I can get a summonable mount (figurine of wonderous power, or ring of spell storing with find steed) I may hold off on mounted combatant. And just try to find other ways to gain advantage where possible.

    Champion advice

The hex would only be first round's bonus action, and at one per day would probably only be on boss fights. I believe once you're at 3+ attacks per round (so after level 11) it comes out ahead of attacking without it by like the second round of combat; but I probably need to rerun the numbers on...

    Champion advice

Advice requested - playing a ChampionHi all. I'm hoping to hear from some folks that have played straight-classed champions through level 10+. Quick background: I'm thinking about my next character being a champion. Half-orc, polearm build, feat-heavy (GWM, Sentinel, PAM being the first three...

    D&D 5E (2014) Staff of Swarming Insects

    Lol fair enough :)

    D&D 5E (2014) Staff of Swarming Insects

Blindsight is a type of vision. There is no logical reason for it to magically see through things that would otherwise be opaque; and there is no rules text that points to it being able to do so. It is not x-ray vision --that is a separate thing that does exist in the DnD ruleset (see ring of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Staff of Swarming Insects

Agreed. Tremorsense would see through it only because the bugs are flying. Blindsight probably shouldn't see through it, because the bugs are actually there, and blindsight doesn't let you see through physical things, i.e its not x-ray vision (it just means you don't need light or eyes to see)...

    D&D 5E (2014) Has anyone played a cleric/wizard or similar multiclass?

Wiz 1 / Life Cleric 7 here. Shield spell and booming blade make me so much better in melee, familiar helps with ranged healing and scouting, absorb elements and a level 1 spellbook packed with rituals are nice too. Might pick up Wiz 2 for portent or minor conjuration eventually, not sure...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e. Repeling blast nerfed in our game. Help me to rebuild my Bard-Lock

If you're not really feeling the Invocations, I'd say either go Warlock 1 / Bard X, Sorcerer 1 / Bard X, or just straight Bard depending on what you're trying to do with the warlock levels. If it's just to have decent ranged and melee damage options (via eldritch blast and the blade cantrips)...

    D&D 5E (2014) Boots of Striding and Springing.......kinda lame

Situationally good for jumping grappler builds (aka suplex builds).

    D&D 5E (2014) The Grappler's Manual (2.0) - Grappling in 5th Edition

Checking in with a play report (AL). After messing around with the early levels of a few different grappling builds, I finally settled on an Orc Barbarian. And man, am I having fun! The massive hit point pool and Bear Totem's resistances mean I'm never worried about wading into the thick of...

    Fai Chen recon

Great suggestions. I'd also add as a suggestion, for the pre-printed items --or at least the ones with multiple copies for sale-- have a "menu" available. It could be printed up large and displayed, or written on a whiteboard, or printed up inexpensively in a stack of black and white 8.5x11s, or...

    Fai Chen recon

FYI some additional info from Facebook posts (Fai Chen going on at Winter Fantasy right now): -Wand of the Warmage +1 was one of the "standard" items -Potions of superior healing for sale -Several different 'membership in a specific fun group' (actors' guild, gravediggers' union, etc) for sale...

    Fai Chen recon

Great info, thanks all. Do you know if he carries the wizard/warlock equivalent of +1 weapons (wand of the war mage, rod of the pact keeper)? Also, in that "one trade per person per session" -- does that cover both certed trades and "gently-used" trades? So like one of either? I thought I'd read...

    Fai Chen recon

I'll be attending Orccon in a few weeks, and Fai Chen will be there. This will be my first meeting with him, and I've got a few questions. Sorry if any of these are dumb q's, I searched a bit but there doesn't seem to be a lot of info out there. 1) I've heard that he now has both +1 and +2...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rynic's Metamagic Compendium

If someone is incanting verbal components, I can hear it's a spell being cast and see their lips moving. If someone is waving their hands around Dr Strange style, I can see they're casting a spell. But if a spell only requires material components (a focus), and not verbal or somatic components...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rynic's Metamagic Compendium

With a component pouch, sure. But if you use a focus, you just need to have the spell focus in hand. Arcane crystal in hand in pocket; Arcane staff that looks like a walking stick; Or if you're a sorcadin, cast those paladin spells while holding your shield that has a holy symbol engraved on it.
