Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

But why? Why change the lore the entire reason people adopt a campaign setting in the first place. They used that stupid time jump as a method to dumb the lore down (wotc words AND mine). If you're not using the established lore you are using the setting in name only. 4e was FR in name only...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Yes let's please not make it like a Marvel Celestial popping out of a planet and it not really bothering anyone.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

They wouldn't do that if the designers paid more attention to the lore.

    D&D 5E (2024) Purple Dragon Knight as a background?

No but look at the credits lately. They're not the ones writing this. And they left before it was finished. Losing them worries me more than anything else.

    D&D 5E (2024) Purple Dragon Knight as a background?

Make it a background. New designers are taking a good bit of FR lore and messing it up with a dragon riding subclasses. Just make a character and roleplay the PDK.

    D&D 5E (2024) Purple Dragon Knight as a background?

More likely the new creators don't know the old lore and are using handwavium for kewl's sake. Plus the player tokens would look cooler on actual plays! We should probably just make all Cormyr the Kingdom of Purple Dragonborn. Old lore is outdated. No need to pay attention to it. That is...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

This is all you need to do to cover it. Well said.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

I use FR and disallow a ton of races and options that are published. FR was not the arbitrary lore dump until the awful 4e realms became the default setting. It was literally said by WOTC they needed to dumb the realms down. Where lore wouldn't matter. Want Dragon Riders? There's a precedent...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

There was good reason for that. Economy. Some lore changes make sense like the red wizards and others are ignorant. The purple dragon knight amethyst dragon pets was lore ignorant. Not a good change. Silverymoon did not have a red wizard enclave. Water deep certainly did and its focus on...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

This is better. Making Purple Dragon Knights attached to Amethyst Dragons was lore ignorant. Purple Dragon Knights were named so for the Black Great Wyrm that ruled the territory before it became Cormyr. There's a whole trilogy written about it. Likewise if they wanted Dragon Riders there's...

Worlds of Design: In the Shadow of Tolkien

MORE than likely. We killed Thor with a Push spell off a mountain. It was ridiculous 6th grade power!

Critical Role's The Mighty Nein Reveals First Look, Season 1 to Air on November 19th

Nothing I said indicates I don't think 11 year olds use swear words. There's a difference between them learning that on their own, and a local father suggesting other people's kids go home and watch Vox Machina. Plus that Bard is just an awful example of a bard. My daughter plays a bard in...

Critical Role's The Mighty Nein Reveals First Look, Season 1 to Air on November 19th

I really wish there wasn't so much swearing in these. I am helping a new group of new generation gamers that are all 11 years old and I feel like these cartoons are inappropriate for that. Not demanding a change, but I would love a piece of media that shows D&D animation without that stupid...

Worlds of Design: In the Shadow of Tolkien

This is funny to me because when the first of the trilogy (Dragon of Autumn Twilight I think) came out my friend John (bless his soul) read it and told me this Book was already WRITTEN IN D&D TERMS. We didn't have to put the book in D&D Terms like we did with Elric, Conan, and the Hobbit. It...

Worlds of Design: In the Shadow of Tolkien

I was exposed to D&D the year after I read the Hobbit. Read Hobbit in 4th grade, and later that year had my first D&D Adventure with the Erol Otus Green Dragon. I learned the basics of combat. But it was not related. It was oh you liked the hobbit come play this after lunch. 5th grade is...

Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

Than you couldn't POSSIBLY have that wrong reaction! Now that you know Salvatore wrote that to conform to WOTC new improved "philosophy" its ALL perfect.

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

I think its one of the best and a conclusion to a low level story. Appropriate for that page. Everyone I knew loved it. You're allowed not to.

D&D 5E (2024) Here's The Covers of BOTH of November's Forgotten Realms Books

Nobody was complaining about art done by Committee then at least before 4th edition and I don't think it was art done by committee then. They had other complaints certainly. Now they have gotten to a point where there is a lot of boxes they have to check. It is what it is.
