D&D General Worlds of Design: Chaotic Neutral is the Worst

I define it thus: CHAOTIC EVIL: The chaotic evil creature holds that individual freedom and choice is important, and that other individuals and their freedoms are unimportant if they cannot be held by the individuals through their own strength and merit. Thus, law and order tends to promote not...

D&D General Worlds of Design: Chaotic Neutral is the Worst

Chaotic Neutral is absolutely a "real Alignment" and is very well-suited to professional adventurers; such a character dislikes authority, does not go out of his way to help strangers without good reason, and does not go out of his way to harm strangers without good reason... but he likely would...

D&D General Worlds of Design: Chaotic Neutral is the Worst

Yes! Chaotic Neutral has been tainted by misunderstanding (for a long time) as shown by the gawdawful definition it got in the 2nd Edition books where it was described as a ridiculous "be crazy and flip a coin to decide how you act" Alignment. CN means you don't like authority, and you don't...

TSR Jim Ward: Laser Tag and TSR

I absolutely loved the Worlds of Wonder Lazer Tag! (The WoW brand used a "Z" to distinguish itself.) I managed to eventually get one of the big white Starlyte rifles that had been returned to the store for really cheap. Whoever designed those things did an excellent job, they looked better...

    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: Jackalope

I like! Yeah, you're from my area. ;)

AD&D 1E The Imaginary Book that Spawned "Necessary" Monsters

I agree; I've been going over the 2nd Edition Monstrous Compendiums volumes 1 and 2 and thinking about all the various creatures in them, including the fae, that should be converted.

AD&D 1E The Imaginary Book that Spawned "Necessary" Monsters

Thank you, this was an extraordinary article. I have to find the Book of Imaginary Beings to read myself.

D&D 5E (2014) New Cover for Eberron: Rising from the Last War

While it is a beautiful and wonderfully executed piece of art, it does seem kind of sparse for a cover illustration. Not that it's a real problem, it does its job of showing some of the eccentricities of Eberron: magical robotman, badass Halfling adventurer, and a trained dinosaur.

D&D 5E (2014) New Cover for Eberron: Rising from the Last War

Fitting, seeing as Warforged are kinda magitech robots. :) Dr. Strangebot!

    How Expensive is Too Expensive?

I know, which is why I said they could use cheaper doodads. Black and white maps and the like; everything doesn't need to be full color glossy to be cool. And I could probably swing $100 every once in a while for a box full of books and cool stuff.

    How Expensive is Too Expensive?

I would just like boxed sets to become common again. I got an original Dark Sun Boxed Set in pristine condition for $60 on eBay last year, and it made me seriously miss the feeling of opening a box and pulling out all the various books, maps, posters, catalogues, and flyers (seeing the 1991...

D&D General Here's What A 5' Square Actually Looks Like

Studded Leather armor always makes me laugh. ;) I just assume it's some kind of really light brigandine jack or something. The 3E falchion... I don't even know what the heck that was supposed to be, except for maybe Inuyasha's Tessaiga (which was actually pointed out by the [adult swim] bumps...

D&D General Here's What A 5' Square Actually Looks Like

Excellent! That is super cool. All I could manage was some Tai Chi when I was younger, a friend of mine taught it. And I fully understand about the low Constitution score, I'd place myself at about a 7, and without my glasses everything beyond a foot becomes a colorful blur. No adventuring...

D&D General Here's What A 5' Square Actually Looks Like

That is some rad stuff. :) I would love to do HEMA, if only I'd not already had the spine of a 90 year old man by the time I was 19 (according to how the doctor put it.) Now 24 years later and it's only gotten worse. (I would seriously like to find that 90 year old man and trade him back for my...

D&D General Here's What A 5' Square Actually Looks Like

Yeah, I guess the archetypal one-handed arming sword would be covered under short sword now, alongside your stereotypical gladius? I've wondered about that myself! I went ahead and added "Arming Sword" to the weapon table as just a longsword without the Versatile property. As you implied...

D&D General Here's What A 5' Square Actually Looks Like

No sir, that looks to be just the right size for a plain ol' longsword to me; if he stood up straight and put the point on the ground (which you really shouldn't do) the pommel would come about to just around his shoulder, which is just right for a longsword (they are called "long" swords for a...
