    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Drakkenheim breaking would be utterly on-point for that campaign, surely? ;) Cheers, Merric

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

My plan is to start running Empire of the Ghouls using the 2024 PHB in just under three weeks. As you might know, I use Roll20 so I'll be able to see how long combat takes from the timestamps. It won't tell us that much... but I can see if the player options significantly slow play down...

D&D General Interview with Chris Cocks on D&D AI, the OGL, and more

Given that the actual use of the OGL often mimicked CC BY 4.0. So, so many products that didn't open up their new mechanics...

D&D General Short vs Long Rests and 5.24E

That Prayer of Healing now gives you the benefit of a short rest (for 10 minutes casting) is really going to shake things up. Cheers, Merric

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

El-remmen did. Linky: D&D 5E - Length of Combat & Time Taken per Round (collecting data from my games - updated 3/13 with an hour 30 minute 11 round battle!) One highly seasoned vet (playing wizard), two mid-to-high level players (archer & paladin), one low level player (playing cleric), when...

    D&D 5E (2024) New stealth rules.

I don't think there's much implication going on here. Flavour text says what goes on. Rules then back it up. Yes, not everything is in the spell description, but it's definitely there. "You can't be seen by normal forms of vision" is pretty clear.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

I run combats fast. 10 minutes would require a lot of things to go very well. Running on Roll20 (with D&D Beyond/Beyond20 integration), a recent combat of four level 17 characters vs. a Goristro plus two Vrock - 16 minutes. Three level 16 characters vs. a Stone Golem - 18 minutes. Three...

    D&D 5E (2014) Missing APs To Aquire?

The 5E Campaign books I've really enjoyed (and often have DMed multiple times): Tyranny of Dragons Storm King's Thunder Waterdeep: Dragon Heist (it's a mess, but there's enough there to make it interesting to fix). Curse of Strahd I think Princes of the Apocalypse and Out of the Abyss are on...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Let's Read] A Life Well Lived: A Series of Character Development-Based Subsystems

It's one of a number of really badly thought out rules. And Uncharted Journeys had a core system that didn't integrate into 5E play well at all. The ideas are great, don't get me wrong, but there's a lack of system mastery that is very apparent from the designers. Cheers, Merric

    D&D 5E (2014) [Let's Read] A Life Well Lived: A Series of Character Development-Based Subsystems

A Life Well Lived, much like Uncharted Journeys, is full of inspiration and half-baked rules systems. I want to like it a lot more than I do. Consider this Campcraft activity: So, does this mean that you can give a fellow fighter training in the Longsword, so they get an additional +4 or...

WotC D&D Historian Ben Riggs says the OGL fiasco was Chris Cocks idea.

His tweet: https://x.com/JHight_Gamer/status/1814061838650470550 (I would be astounded if he hadn't played D&D, quite frankly). Cheers, Merric

D&D 5E (2014) Baldur's Gate 3 won so many awards that it started to "affect development"

Not a chance of a Switch port. Switch 2... we'll have to see the specs. Cheers, Merric
