What are you a minority about?

I really like the post-Spellplague Forgotten Realms (except for the map: there is no excuse for that to have been allowed to be published).

BRAINSTORM: Merchant Adventurepath - Adventures in Trade

@OP: Back when these boards were very new, but after the release of 3E, some ingenious poster posted his "d20 trade" system. Maybe one of the other long-time members still has a copy or can remember the name of it so that it can be Googled. I remember it was a great system for determining...

Chris Perkins now Senior Producer, D&D RPG

Absolutely. WotC basically admits its adventures and (pseudo-) adventure paths aren't up to scratch (Rodney Thompson's thread is evidence of that). If I owned/ran WotC and was uncertain about opening up the GSL I would be negotiating with Paizo and/or Necromancer Games for a temporary licence...

    D&D 4E D&D Heroscape, DDM, and 4E Lite??

Have you thought about using Savage Worlds?

    5 companies

I'm not 100% sure of the relationship between the thread title and your post. I'm also not 100% sure what your post is actually asking. I am assuming that you're asking if there is any more information about the Five Companies than what appears in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide. The only...

It's Not the GM's Job to Make Sure People Have Fun

I agree. The problem with these sorts of topics and the arguments that they engender is that they end up becoming like arguments about politics: the real answer lies at both extremes, in the middle and at some points in between all at the same time.

    updates of older modules

Perhaps I didn't phrase my answers well enough because your question, "But wouldn't it be even better to get an entirely new (super)module that deals with the Cult of the Elder Eye appropriately?" is entirely consistent with what I feel about a remake/"inspired by" version of ToEE. In the...

GenCon, sleep, hard-core gaming and drowsy driving

I get my caffeine from two sources: coffee and Red Bull. I need at least one of them in the morning by about 9.30/10.00am else I suffer from migraines. I need at least one or two more during the day to keep going. And, similar to your experience, I sometimes need one so I can sleep.

    More Campaign Setting Books!?

I run FR4E and, while I would like more "stuff", the reality is I have more than enough because of my back-to-the-Grey-Box collection. I think Eberron is probably in the same boat. (What FR4E really needs is good maps. The ones done for the FRCG/FRPG are, without exaggeration, possibly the...

Facing Orcus (Update: Included Mesh Hongs Campaign - Heroic Tier)

So, Mesh Hong, I knew you designed great monsters and encounters but, seriously, your campaign rocks! Thanks for posting it here. Sorry I can't give you XP but the only way I could give you XP each time you deserved it would be to create a series of alts... which is against board policy!

    The Skinny on Adventure Tools?

There are lots of hints posted on the WotC boards suggesting that the team is working on a big update in time for Gencon but those same posts mention that the team will not divulge what it is they are working on because of the track record of broken deadlines. Clearly, whoever has managed D&D's...

    updates of older modules

Actually, my take on the feedback in that thread was that ToEE was considered a profound disappointment during the 1E era, not from the perspective of "modern eyes" (at least it was for me and many of those who posted on that thread). I would still love to see ToEE updated. Multiple sites...

Chris Perkins now Senior Producer, D&D RPG

I agree: it does sound interesting. Clearly, Hasbro is expecting that the WotC team extract more value from the D&D brand than they have in the past. RPGs are such a small (sub-)industry that it makes sense to broaden the range of products with the D&D brand. I sincerely wish them every...

What are the basic building blocks of your games?

I totally agree. I have always run my games in FR since the Grey Box first came out. I'm certainly no setting-Nazi but it is my habit when planning out a new campaign to find as much of the extant lore about the location(s) as possible. For me this isn't some sort of creativity-sapping...

Chris Perkins now Senior Producer, D&D RPG

I have never understood why WotC acknowledges that it has a problem with the quality of its adventures and yet the names of their two best adventure writers (IMO), Chris Perkins and Rich Baker, are conspicuous by their absence. Of course, I also realise that this is a consequence of them being...

What are the basic building blocks of your games?

Art. Inevitably, my ideas for encounters, adventures and campaigns are driven by a particularly piece of art (despite my complete lack of anything resembling artistic talent). If I have the right picture then I feel like I can do anything. In fact, a lot of time that I spend preparing my DM...

    updates of older modules

This is my third or fourth attempt at writing this post. My three main points are: 1. I would love to see many of the old classics mined for ideas and/or converted to 4E. 2. I don't want to see those involved with designing or developing Revenge of the Giants in any sort of design and...

    FR - Icewind Dale

Forgotten Realms: The Savage North | Obsidian Portal The above link is to Rodney Thompson's Obsidian Portal pages for his FR4E campaign set in and around Icewind Dale. You might be able to steal some ideas from there.

How do you deal with writer's block?

Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Article (Building-Block Adventure Design) The above article is one of the Dungeoncraft series by James Wyatt and suggests writing adventures as three encounter "delves". I find it's one of the best ways of breaking writer's block when...

    MM3 Preview: MIMIC

I like it a lot. This will work really well in the paragon tier of my current FR game which involves, inter alia, worshippers of Ghaunadaur and aberrations in general. This mimic will fit right in. It reminds me of the fluff that Sean K Reynolds invented for his Darkness Without Form: Secrets...
