    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

Just wanted to note a correction here since I don't have time for a full reply until tomorrow... but nothing states being in an area of heavy obscuration gives you disadvantage... however trying to see something in the heavily obscured area (as your target would be trying to do) does Impose...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

Also... you can describe the invisibility spell working however you want but mechanically it gives you the Invisible condition which can only be negated in the specific ways you counter or end the spell.. its pretty simple design when you accept it for what it is vs. Preconceived notions.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

The condition doesnt... but it does matter because the condition gives the effects that one gains from having it.... If i hide (stealth check of 20) and gain the Invisible condition with a longbow in underbrush 70ft away from my target then shoot at him with advantage (from the Invisible...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

So let me address these separately.... HIDE: You cannot hide if an opponent can see you, so you are starting from a position of your opponent(s) not being able to see you... otherwise you cannot take the Hide action. As long as said opponents cannot see you you gain all of the effects of the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

No the condition is not useless...as long as I hide and then stay out of the line of sight of the enemy. And why would we assume that some type of special vision is needed?

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

No... it has 3 effects... Advantage on the initiative roll, not being affected by any effect that requires the target to be seen, and Advantage on your attacks and Disadvantage on attacks against you. What you're conflating is what happens when you are detected and loose the Invisible condition...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

It doesn't have to state it explicitly... it's what having line of sight means. A line of unobstructed vision to a particular thing.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

Need more information... why does the room full of creatures lack line of sight?

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

Specific rules of the spell (what ends the condition it grants) override the general rules and the condition of Invisible grants the concealed effect so no, due to how the actual Invisible spell works, just having line of sight doesn't end the condition.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

The Hide action does not... it clearly states you must be out of an enemy's line of sight in addition to what you listed above.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

You cannot hide if you are in line of sight... You are also not concealed because per the Invisible condition you cannot be concealed if an effect's creator can somehow see you... with line of sight a spell (Or many other effects) can be cast/performed on said creature, It seems self...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

I think the argument is that baring magic a creature can easily see anything in their line of sight... thus why a hidden character who moves into the line of sight of another is no longer concealed and has been found.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

What about other ways of detection outside of sight? You see once you make that the explicit way of loosing said condition... the arguments will then revolve around it only referencing being seen as opposed to any other way one could be detected.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Stealth and D&D2024

So you want an explicit list of all the ways a hidden person could be discovered?

Because there could always be corner cases, especially as the game expands, that would be missed by an explicit call out... and then we are right back here.

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Unless they give out financial data without commentary...there's very little WottC could state that would be 100% unambiguous. That's the nature of language. Edit: Also what did they deceive their consumers about concerning 4e?

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Yeah there's marketing and then there's deceptive marketing and I'm trying to understand where the marketing speak around the PHB is being deceptive.

What are they deceiving you about in the statement given?

WotC Mike Mearls: "D&D Is Uncool Again"

Yes but the term weasl words implies they are being dishonest or at the least misleading... what is misleading about the statement? It's a precise single fact that isn't elaborated on with unknowable speculation. In fact I'd argue trying to pull it apart as opposed to taking it at face value is...
