    D&D 5E (2014) Tasha's and optimization

Tortles are the best for most classes really. Anybody who is not a Dex based class, but needs it for AC is better off as a Tortle. Even a Barbarian is better off not having to use a 14 in Dex to make their medium armour work properly. Same with Artificer, Valour Bards who use Strength, pretty...

    D&D General Inherently Evil?

We have always just played that not every species is wired the same (our group is older, we come from a different time). What is common in one species is a mental illness in another. Tieflings have a pull towards damnation. Where a human would feel only a moral compass, they also have an...

D&D 5E (2014) Help find a good alchemist base class not focused on bombs and/or influenced by Dr Jekyll or Frankenstein

If you can relax some of your requirements, you can use pre-existing rules. I played a Dr Jeckyl character as a Moon Druid. He took the form of his alter-ego, a devil/orc hybrid that used bear stats. Then later giant gorilla stats. At higher levels it sprouted wings etc. It is pretty easy to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Questioning Nat 20's: Opposing Skills Checks.

My advice is never try to make anything up to the players in-game. That is not a healthy dynamic. You make calls and the whole table has to respect that and move on with the game. If you get something wrong, let them know later, but you don't owe them anything.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fix 5e.... in one sentence

"Great, so we can all make it for the in-person game every week!"

    D&D 5E (2014) wildfire spirit

It seems very powerful for getting the whole party through small windows or behind locked doors. In combat it is not particularly useful.

I have no idea what this means. It is a abbreviation that has passed me by, could you please elaborate?

    D&D 5E (2014) Fey Hobgoblin Mastermind Too Cheesy/OP?

Thanks for the feedback folks. It looks like it is balanced somewhat by the opportunity cost that Rogue's have giving up their other uses for bonus actions. Anything that mostly helps others can generally be on the stronger side without being a problem.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fey Hobgoblin Mastermind Too Cheesy/OP?

Hi folks, I am looking to be a player for the first time in a long time. In fact I am looking at joining two groups, one full of powergamers and one full of newbies. I have wanted to play a gruff retired veteran who takes others under his wing, but is not the fighter he used to be. I can do that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Kids playing dnd?

I started with Tales of Equestria, the My Little Ponies RPG. My daughter is seven and enjoyed a 30-40 minute gaming session with her mum. I purposely kept it quick, get her to solve one problem. Then called it quits, leaving her wanting more rather than waiting until she was bored. It was handy...

    D&D 5E (2014) Encounters for 4 10th level characters using CR1s

Bounded accuracy does not make a level 1 guy a credible threat to a level 10. It just means that they are not completely irrelevant. It means that level 10 guys have to be wary of the city watch, not as individual guards, but as a group. It means there is no such thing as being immune to spears...

D&D 5E (2014) High Fantastic Races. What are the appropriate weaknesses?

Isn't fantasy races having disadvantages considered 'problematic' these days? Isn't that what WOTC are trying to get away from? Heck gnomes have the same Str score as humans. More recently a tortle can have the same dexterity as an elf. Personally I'm fine with it, but it is against the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Stabbing Satan: A Fool's Errand.

I think it should become clear to them that they simply don't have the power to defeat Asmodeus themselves. The thing is though, they can comparatively easily turn the other lords against him, they could steal his rod of rulership, allow the demons to invade the hells, make his rivals think he...

D&D 5E (2014) How would you make a musician who sold their soul at the crossroads?

I'd just play a bard. Not everybody is born with PC level stats. My PC was born with Charisma 6, he was always the butt of jokes and bullied. He could never hope to woo the woman of his dreams. He was physically frail too. As he approached adulthood, he made a crossroads pact to be just like...

D&D General A Venn Diagram Poll About D&D

A - if somebody needs to look up a spell or what have you, they do it on their phone in their own time. If it is your turn in combat and you don't know the particulars of a spell by then, you can't cast it that turn.

D&D 5E (2014) Help me make 'Manic' Jim Rannic

Definitely a Fighter Battlemaster to me. Sharpshooter + Xbow Expert + Archery Style is very powerful. Second Wind is him wiping blood from the corner of his mouth, pulling off his torn shirt in one go, or wrapping his shirt around his wounded leg. Trip attack, disarm, menacing (?) all seem...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rogue’s Fast Hands and Manacles

Would you let somebody use "Interact with Object" to say that they are going to put a sword inside somebody? Surely that is easier than manacling somebody. I would say that you can use "interact with object" to put manacles on somebody you already have grappled. You would have to have something...

D&D General Are lockpicking tools legal in your fantasy world?

Most of my cities and towns give the local sheriff way too much power to use discretion to arrest people. They can hold them for about two weeks before setting them before a magistrate. Having lockpicks gets you arrested "on suspicion of burglary". If you are not a registered locksmith, the...

    D&D 5E (2014) sleep vs tasha's laughter

I would ask your GM about uses of Sleep outside of combat. For instance, if it fails its HP roll, does it still make somebody sleepy? Can you cast it on somebody with too many HP and make them decide to go have a nap, assuming they won't lose their job for doing so? What about if you cast it on...
