Light Club was the beginning, now it's moved out of the basement, it's called Project Magnum.

Stay with the the play, don't write in your corner. The first games were made from the conflicts of gamemasters. Like the first PCs sent into a dungeon. Without conflict, without situation, we would have nothing. Stop the drift - this is your play, your challenging scene. It's right...

This is a narration mechanic. It will work more than you've ever been making at the table, and you will have some cards.

Now, ancient wargamers found their games got cooler if someone took over being the source of conflict and moved some narrative authority off of the rules. You know why? Human beings tell stories about everything they do, even vicariously. Challenges were overcome, epic battles fought as...

Listen up, monsters. You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique statblock. You're the same stats, level, and descriptive text as everything else. You are all part of the same compost heap.

You created me! I didn't create some gamemaster alter-ego just to make myself feel better.

The first rule of Light Club is that there are races, classes, level, and 6 ability modifiers (STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, and CHA). The second rule of Light Club is that you when you roll a d20, you add a number equal to your level plus a stat (Might, Reflex, Fortitude, Insight, Will, and...

What's the cool way not to drink at a bar?

Thanks everyone; I appreciate the ideas. It's really just a matter of not enjoying most forms of alcohol, but not wanting to be the one guy not drinking (the spoilsport) - or the one guy sticking it to the bar and waitstaff.

In the world I see, you're creating scenes in a stitched world beyond the ruins of overgrown subsystems. You'll use descriptive text that will last you the rest of your games. You'll climb the experience charts that wrap the game's narrative economy. And when you look across the table you'll...

Who did the Ravennia map shown here?

Anyone know how to contact the person who did this map? I'd like to talk to him or her about its use; it would be a godsend for a new project I'm heading up.

ry's Threats, Rewards, Assets, and Problems (TRAPs)

I think you're making a very natural extension there (in terms of changing scale), because at least 2 others (Todd Hodges who's working on a draft, and Leonard Balsera who wrote a cool game called Spirit of the Century) have taken it in the same direction. I think this goes to show that...

    OD&D or RC?

I really appreciate everybody's responses in this thread - I have a really clear idea of what to expect from each and what would work with my house rules best. Sadly, since my players will frequently be GMing the game and they're not so good about reading all the rules, the Cyclopedia lost out...

Why don't giants rule the world?

Cause it's a game. They never got a whole continent, so no army bonuses. Asia, 7 armies, Europe 5 and Africa 3. But they just never got a whole one. Same thing happened to Alexander the Great: Tried to make it to Australia and couldn't get past Siam.
