D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

My apologies @EzekielRaiden , I see now that you let this thread. Sorry to summon you back. Feel free to ignore if you want (though I didn't answer on of the questions you said no-one answers for you).

I think I was focusing more on the logic aspect and less on the plausibility aspect. People are not logical so you can't plausibly expect them to act logically. That kind of thing.

I mean people have been talking about how DMs have done this since the game started. So while it may not make sense to some, I think it is pretty clear it happens.

Yep, that is what we do too. My only point is that there is not some grand internal logical other then what we (me and my group) think is plausible / logical.

I'm jumping in late so I don't know if you are correct on this or not. I have noticed some people discussing plausibility. So, IMO, it seems like some people are discussing this,...because that is the bedrock of what realism means to me. So my definition is something like... Fantasy RPG...

I don't know the meaning of that term (I don't play or design video games), care to explain? I didn't know the meaning of this term until you just explained it!

IMO, it depends on what you mean by internal logic. We know for a fact that people, and to some extent animals, do not always (and sometimes rarely) act based on what is logically the best choice for them. You then multiple those illogical choices across the millions of lifeforms (particularly...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

That is very unfair IMO. You are very good at explain things in a lot of detail. That is not a skill everyone has or has the time to engage in. So I think it is a bit unfair to expect back what you give. My suggestion: give less and then you may less disappointed in the discussion as you get...

Maybe the solution for you is not justify or provide detailed explanations? It seems to really bother you, so why are you doing it?

Of course the strange thing is that a real living world doesn't run on the logic of what is plausible! So we may, and I do, abstract our campaign worlds based on what we deem plausible, that is ultimately a very narrow range of what is plausible or possible.

    D&D 5E (2024) Guess the next 3rd party D&D Beyond book.

I know - but we can dream!

While I generally agree with your approach (and do the same myself), I do want to point out few things: If you give them equal weight, then it is biased to the PCs (which I have 0 issue with). If it was truly a living world, the PCs would have very little to almost now weight (at least...

Level Up (A5E) Martial Artistry (3pp book in the works) Ideas and Concepts

@Steampunkette I haven't been following (my apologies), but what is the expected date for this to be released (or crowdfunded)?

GOD RULES: Player's Guide (5e) Kickstarter Pre-Launch Page

Doesn't that depend on how well you roll the dice?! ;)

GOD RULES: Player's Guide (5e) Kickstarter Pre-Launch Page

Yes, many times. The EnWorld Kickstarters almost always do this, but I have seen it in a lot of others as well. However, my frequency of backing Kickstarters has gone down a lot the past 2 years.

D&D 5E (2024) You Can Now Pre-order Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Why would you need to do that (anymore than wizards, fighters, clerics, etc.)?

GOD RULES: Player's Guide (5e) Kickstarter Pre-Launch Page

I have seen both before. So you have several tiers in the Kickstarter, but you also have add-ons (that often correspond to the tiers, but not always). I have noticed the add-ons can be to your pledge added after the kickstarter is over too.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 D&D: now available for the rest of us

Is that because they can't get them or they are sold out? I am out of town (in Ohio) and stopped into the local Barnes and Nobel and they had all the core books. So they seem broadly available in the US IME.

    D&D 5E (2014) Tidbit for monster design

Just realize your way does not work for a lot of people. I came from 1e where there really no monster creation rules. So I have the background of make first and assign difficulty later, but not everyone has the knowledge base or skill to do that. That is we other methods of monster design...
