Fun fact. In a different thread a poster hates that the 2014 DMG states in every single optional rule that you can use it or not. Your choice. It is your game.
I thought it can't be stated often enough.
Probably a DMG that only repeats this for 300 pages is more useful than the rest of the 2014 DMG.

Some people seem to want to use the rules as a stick rather than a guidepost.

Where I am, the books are supposed to arrive in "September". Which is almost over.

We did play through roll20. Everyone made a character, but problems persisted. Equipment is a real pain, as is spells, and somethings dropped and dragged well, some did not.

Oh, two players had this happen: take a character sheet, then drop and drag a monster sheet onto it, like for your familiar--they combine! You make some funky hybrid. Then have to remake your character.

Still the game was fun.

So, several months later....

Roll20 is better with 2024. But not 100%. 2014 ease of use was (or I guess is) still greater. But the gap is smaller, and for those that want it you can mix between the two.

But the books are no where to be seen in the not North America location I am in. I probably heading that way soon, and I got some shipped, but it has become a running joke at one of the places I was regularly checking "still nothing new sir".

I guess I should edit the thread title.

Is that because they can't get them or they are sold out?

I am out of town (in Ohio) and stopped into the local Barnes and Nobel and they had all the core books. So they seem broadly available in the US IME.
