Rogue Mastermind Archetype Up, Courtesy of Extra Life

I care about a particular aesthetic, and the cost of the drawback is minor compared to the expense of the aesthetic. I don't know that there is any way to quantify its importance to me to you. I rather have a tradeoff between choosing to invest in Int/Wis/Cha over choosing to invest in Dex...

By making them MAD; MAD is an issue for some, other would gladly accept it to reach a particular character concept (see monks).

Rogue Mastermind Archetype Up, Courtesy of Extra Life

Probably because people want to be a "mastermind", not a "rogue mastermind." Only guessing. I know for me, I would like a martial class that put mental stats ahead of physical stats. Since that doesn't exist, rogue is closest to filling the niche.

Pathfinder 1E What Made You Switch To Pathfinder?

I didn't switch from 3.x to to PF. I switched from 4e to 3.x/PF. Most of the people I gamed with didn't own 4e books. They depended on the online character builder, and I anticipated that it would be a chore to continue playing once support was pulled. I end up leaving my 4e group since they...

D&D 5E (2014) Player awareness of adventure - would you still use it?

I have no problem with running an adventure people have played before. The caveat is that the players are interested in running the adventure again. Additionally, adventures have more going than what is prescribed by the module. Honestly, D&D modules aren't offering any surprises. The PC are...

    D&D 5E (2014) in search of inspiration

I find inspiration from a lot of difference sources like others have said, but one of my favorite sources is to take two dissimilar concepts or quotes and come up with ideas to make them connect. Like I saw one of those inflatable air dances that they have at car dealerships and thought how...

    D&D 5E (2014) How many fans want a 5E Warden?

If only they had considered filling 1/5 of the book with a huge list of manuevers, skills, special abilities and invocations. Then they could have created customized lists based around appropriate concepts for each class. Then subclasses would be able to just append those list to tweak the...

    D&D 5E (2014) How many fans want a 5E Warden?

To me, the mechanics for Oath of Ancients aren't that far off the mark, but the oath and the motif are off. The Warden seemed to me to be more about the wrath of nature and tapping into primal powers that altered appearance to shapechanging. Looking at the druid spells from the EE Player...

D&D 5E (2014) If you use Group Initiative (like my group does), why do you use it?

I stopped doing group initiatives because it ends up penalizes characters with good initiatives and gives the group that goes first a large advantage. It gives casts an almost unfair advantage for fireballs, lightning bolts, etc. I rather limit group initiative to surprise rounds, alternatively...

D&D 5E (2014) XP vs Story Line Progression Leveling model in 5th edition

How does that work out? I wouldn't have though people whold care to track XP once you removed the ability to level up.

D&D 5E (2014) How dangerous are your wildnernesses?

My wilderness areas are primarily resource-sinks unless it's a major feature of the campaign. There are wilderness locations that are environmentally dangers or home to deadly creatures (possibly both). Everywhere else it is a paywall to deplete resources or impede progress.

D&D 5E (2014) XP vs Story Line Progression Leveling model in 5th edition

I may have been reading too much into it. I thought it just meant that you could differ handing out XP. If, for example, you have three encounters, the XP would be given at the conclusion. That is where it makes sense in the story.

D&D 5E (2014) How many combats does your 5e group typically have between long rests, if you have at least one?

I don't really plan out a set number of combats. I have combat based more on the situation than any set number. If there are more than 3-5 combats in a day it is probably due to some failure or a conscious choices of the players.

D&D 5E (2014) For the Record: Mearls on Warlords (ca. 2013)

What makes it not good? Its no overlaying anything. bonds are an existing mechanic that already have optional systems tied to it. It would be purely self contained because it is using a pre-existing game feature. skills, tools, languages, etc. come from more than one sources. There are mechanics...

D&D 5E (2014) For the Record: Mearls on Warlords (ca. 2013)

So would it be reasonable for a warlord to have additional bond traits and have there abilities tied to the characters he shares a bond trait with.

    D&D 5E (2014) Whimsy in your game?

I like whimsy. It is great even in a grim setting because the transitions to deadly serious can be extremely interesting. I enjoy when something seems silly and nonsensically bizarre until the layers are peeled away. It can be very disturbing when things start to click into place; then it...

D&D 5E (2014) My favorite race- what I play, what I want to see

I usually choose to play as a human. I prefer to stick with the most run of the mill race in general. However, if a campaign had something other than human as the primary species, nine times out of ten I would choose that instead. For the most part, I completely avoid orcs and half-orcs; for me...
