Are you required to bring your own books when you game?

I do require all of my players to buy a PHB. The reason is that that way they have it at home to look it over. Otherwise they never have any clue how anything works, and that irritates me.

Perhaps. Then can we see the entries?

    Ennies nominations?

Now that the judges have been announced, is there a place where we can see who has been nominated?

I too would like to know the answer to this question. Can you give a link to the other thread? Thanks.

Art of Roleplaying - Pacing and Plot

What you are saying isn't exactly new. You are basically laying out the typical plot structure for a fiction book, which looks like this: Incentive Rising Action (The Problem Develops/ Heroes work on it) Climax (The big confrontation) Falling Action (The Plot moves towards resolution)...

Conan vs Lord of the Rings

Iron Chef, if you are not going to read the books than that is your loss. All I can say is that they are WAY better than the REH books. REH is pulp fiction, LOTR is literature. I've read all the COnan books, BTW.

Conan vs Lord of the Rings

No offense, but try actually reading the books. All of the things you complain about are more than adequately explained in the books, which are, of course, truly amazing.

That is a good way to get yourself killed-- at least if you are in the same theater as me. :D

    RotK spoilers: The Sauruman Problem

I too enjoyed the death of Saruman and the scouring of the shire. I won't feel too cheated though as long as there is a nod to the death in the film, i.e. as long as Wormtongue kills him. The book, however, is not a "everyone lives happily ever after" thing by any means. The destruction of...

No. I believe in the book he received no summons. Boromir showed up uninvited because of the dream.

Review of extended scenes in Two Towers (spoilers)

I don't think so. If Denethor could know about the Ring of Power using his Palantir, couldn't Sauron (who was undoubtedly looking for it specifically and not happening upon it by chance) have known about it the same way. He certainly did not know about it through his Palantir, so I think it is...

No, disagreed with. It is a discussion. You try to convince me off your points or teach me something new, and I try to convince or teach you. I thought that was what message boards were for.

Review of extended scenes in Two Towers (spoilers)

Yes, noble rangers. Barliman Butterbur was out-and-out wrong on his characterization of the rangers. And the Ringwraithis were looking for Baggins, not the ring. They most assuredly would NOT have mentioned the ring to anyone in their search. And the goblins and orcs also did not know that...

Review of extended scenes in Two Towers (spoilers)

*Sigh* Seriously? And what is so bad about "roughing up" Gollum? Don't you see that makes Faramir as bad as the enemy? Lastly, do you really think that Gandalf would have bragged it around that the Ring of Power was found? In Gondor, knowing full well that they would want it, and that the...

Review of extended scenes in Two Towers (spoilers)

No, Frank, you're missing the point. It is not the violence that bothered me, it is the character implications. Why would Faramir order his rangers to basically torture a helpless opponent? Plus he later does more of the same to Gollum. Faramir is meant to be more noble than his brother, and...

Review of extended scenes in Two Towers (spoilers)

Thanks to good ole' Walmart, I got my version a day early and watched it last night. I always thought the Two Towers movie was not as good as Fellowship, and I give the new scenes a B+. It almost had an A, but let me tell you why it gets a B+ (scroll down) . . . . . . . . . . . . ...
