Weird Orgy comment on ENWorld D&D Forum Post

I'm not particularly overprotective of my kids and generally feel that it is best to calmly and discuss with my kids whatever adult things they may encounter. But I still find it strange that ENWorld, would allow an orgy reference in a D&D forum post, and that it would be made by a Copper...

Any good sources for time travel adventures?

So, +1,000,000 to Chrono Trigger. Chrono Cross was also great - just different. As for a campaign, haven't done it myself (though have read Anvil adventure and the Dragonlance Legends books). But I thnk one of the keys to maintain continuity is to take thr Chrono Trigger track: Portals to...

    Non-urgent Adventures and Campaigns?

Something I remember from one of the Manifest Zone podcasts with Keith Baker was one of the preliminary questions he asks playera prior to a one-shot. One of them was something like: you need 200gold. Why? And the answers people gave ranged from gambling debt to paying for a greater...

Haven't heard that song for 15 years. Now it's stuck in my head!

    Non-urgent Adventures and Campaigns?

Some great approaches, thanks everyone. It's a hard balance when it comes to a "living world" scenario and incorporating downtime. If Bad Things Happen every time the party pursues something else, then the party won't want to have downtime. The key is to have such a "living world" where...

    Non-urgent Adventures and Campaigns?

This thread got me thinking. I've been reading too many published adventures lately that all have a timer of some sort. Some big bad Thing is going down, and the adventurers need to stop it. What kind of adventure/campaign can be constructed where taking a week-long rest doesn't result in...

    Lifestyle Expenses in Actual Play

Here's the thing: lifestyle expenses and downtime both can be used only in particular types of campaigns, ones where you have non-adventuring days. In a campaign where the PCs have a clear and defined goal from the beginning: take down the BBEG, the PCs will pursue this goal without taking time...

Mechanics of Revived Settings; your thoughts?

For Eberron, it would also be cool to see more distinct write-ups of goblins and orcs as PCs.

    D&D 5E (2014) Lets Design: A Dimensionalist (Wizard Archetype)

Well, using the 5E Wizard subclass (Arcane Tradition) template: 2nd level: Gold and time you must spend to copy a spell from your tradition into your spellbook is halved. 2nd level: some form of rope trick 6th level: some form of misty step/dimension door 10th level: some form of wall of...

Mechanics of Revived Settings; your thoughts?

I want an Eberron mega-adventure, with about a third devoted to updating mechanics. A uniquely pulp-noir style adventure. Something in the style of Nicolas Logue's "Chimes at Midnight"-"Quoth the Raven"-"Hell's Heart" trilogy. Minimal fluff otherwise, just enough to give a general idea about...

    D&D Beyond: Dwarves Part 2

I've begun to just check the main D&D Beyond site as part of my blog regimen. Fun stuff nearly every day, and I only read the transcripts.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Case for Inspiration

Can't... Decide... Whether... To give... Laugh... Or XP... Went with XP. Definitely an underused mechanic, one that incentivizes fun play. Love your idea of "player claimed" inspiration, treating it almost like a resource unto itself.

Spells that target creatures but not objects

No. But it's silly to need to account for every possibility in every spell description. I'm glad there's not a line that says "Target: any creature or object or square or image or blahblahblah" That's what the DM is for.

D&D 5E (2014) Critical hit allows called shot?

I would like the "trade the extra damage for an effect." Not just conditions, either, but you'd have to make up a balanced table, too. Any of the "in place of an attack action" would be good: push, grapple, disarm. Maybe blinded or deafened for one round? Depending on the strength of the...

Guidance Cleric cantrip is really dumb

This seems like a non-issue to me, balance-wise and rp-wise. iserith said it - the Help action grants another player advantage, which is usually better than +1d4. This doesn't break the game just because it might be underutilized by players. I don't see how saying "I cast guidance" affects...

Narrating Hit Points - no actual "damage"

I don't think redefining portions of hit points as representing something different, narratively, quite solves the (perceived, self-inflicted!) problem. The idea of "healing back to full" after a long rest clashes with the idea of hp representing anything more than luck, reserves, bumps and...

Narrating Hit Points - no actual "damage"

Hmmm. I get that HP are completely representational, and represent that combination of everything: luck, weariness, and actual physical damage. I'm not really interested in developing a Narration Algorithm or introducing a more complex Wound/Vitality system. More of a "how can I best describe...
