D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew Super Simple Class: The Prodigy

Interesting. My initial thought is that either you mandate no feats or that the capstone becomes all stats are treated as 20 for saves and defensive skill rolls. As is, imagine the difference in power between two level 20 PCs of this class (perhaps generated for a L20 one-off) one having taken...

D&D General What is the most ludicrous multiclassed monstrosity that you've actually played?

3E was made for multi-classing. I remember conjuring a Fighter / Rogue / Royal Herald / some other PrC that advanced spellcasting - I called him the accidental archmage.

D&D 5E (2014) How powerful is substituting Proficiency Bonus for ability modifier?

The fluff would be that the PC is pulling on experience, focus, or (for saves) sheer stubbornness as appropriate. You could call it "Taking a deep breath." or "Stopping and thinking." or "A flash of inspiration."

D&D 5E (2014) How powerful is substituting Proficiency Bonus for ability modifier?

I'm thinking along the lines of the Battlemaster Fighter or Monk here. Call it the Disciplined Warrior. At some point, perhaps instead of getting Indomitable, the Fighter gets the ability to substitute their Proficiency Bonus for any ability modifier 1 or 2 per Short Rest, at will and for one...

    D&D 5E (2014) Flumph PC race experiment

The advantage (ahem) of giving advantage to saves over immunity is that if the flumph is immune to divination spells then it cannot use any that benefit itself. Foresight and Augury are the obvious spells here.

    D&D 5E (2014) Flumph PC race experiment

Immune to all Divination spells? That's a bit too good. And I'd give Advantage to saves rather than immunity for the rest (q.v. Magic Resistance). You might want to make that 'using any form of telepathy' or even 'using any psychic power'. The usual for D&D auras is 10' at low level and 30'...

    D&D 5E (2014) Troll PC race experiment

It's more to move away from levels. I wasn't aware of - or had forgotten - about official level-dependent 5E feats. I disliked level-dependent feats in 3E and have kept that dislike.

    D&D 5E (2014) Troll PC race experiment

Rather than referencing levels, how about abstracting it by using Proficiency Bonus instead?

Love it! How about giving it Foresight too?

Aphonion Tales: The Archducal Council -- Unedited notes; later posts are edited transcripts (posts MWF, update 3/1/23)

I see mention of laen. I may have already asked this but do you use any of Iron Crown's other invented materials like kregora, shaalk, arinyark, etc?

D&D General Armour class and essentialism

Yes. I allow the PC Fighter to use their Proficiency Bonus instead of their Dex bonus. So a PC in leather armour and no shield has an AC between 14 and 18. You might allow the Barbarian to use the PB instead of their Con bonus - but not both Dex and Con.

    D&D 5E (2014) Post Apocalyptic Aegyptus?

How much of that was due to the introduction of iron weapons?

    D&D 5E (2014) Post Apocalyptic Aegyptus?

Actually, didn't Egypt escape the Late Bronze Age Collapse? The pharaoh of the time scored a big victory against the invading Sea Peoples and drove them off.

Anyone else playing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands?

I'm taking it at a leisurely pace and it's very D&D.

D&D 5E (2014) Mythological Figures is coming to an end... who do you still want to see?

I want all of them, of course! :) More seriously, I think you should eliminate all the actual historical figures from that list and concentrate on the mythological ones. I've voted for a particular few. Something I would like to see is a worked example of how the same person can be modelled by...

D&D General Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth - welcome your thoughts and suggestions

Try switching the ending and channel T1-4. You see Drelnza is actually Good. Just like Thrommel in T1-4. Iggwilv, evil as she is, cannot bring herself to kill her daughter. Perhaps thanks to her being raised by Baba Yaga. But she can bring herself to let her daughter be killed by adventurers...

    OOTS 1253: Catching Up

I've given up. The strip's gone from twice a week to once or twice a month and that's just not often enough to maintain my interest.
