Dragonlance DRAGONLANCE LIVES! Unearthed Arcana Explores Heroes of Krynn!

44 pages in 2 days. Wow. I've skipped the lot. Apologies if I've missed your gems. I've read the UA and am not impressed. The Wizards of High Sorcery were explicitly linked to the moons, and Sorcerors were explicitly linked to Chaos. Really, the whole section on magic is pretty much used toilet...

D&D General Should Bearded Female Dwarves be the Default?

The best response I’ve seen to this was a cartoon where the female dwarf said that she did indeed have a beard - braids, ringlets and all - but it was not above but below.

D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master: how about -5 AC instead of -5 to hit?

Right. But neither Mobility not the Disengage action prevent ordinary attacks; they only prevent Attacks of Opportunity.

    A Question of Religious Character

In the past, priests weren't generally devoted to a specific deity but served all the gods within the pantheon. There would be areas in the temple for each god, with the more important gods having bigger areas, and the patron deity having the biggest. You didn't have clerics of Thor or Zeus or...

D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master: how about -5 AC instead of -5 to hit?

Are you assuming a one-on-one combat?

D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master: how about -5 AC instead of -5 to hit?

Can you elaborate? I don't see how the Mobile feat affects things, Misty Step requires use of a resource that isn't at-will, and Cunning Action doesn't affect the penalty to AC.

D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master: how about -5 AC instead of -5 to hit?

Doesn't that depend upon the amount of healing available? The less healing available, the more important it is to not get hit. Do tell. Are you assuming a one-on-one combat?

D&D 5E (2014) How does that Fighter, Barbarian or Rogue become king? Bring on the Feat

But they're still not very good compared to the Wizard, Cleric, or Bard who start with 16s (or better) in Int, Wis, and Cha respectively.

Dragonlance Dragonlance Moon Magic in 5E (conversion)

How about: High Sanction: Spells related to that moon are cast as if they use a slot one level higher. Maximum level is 9. Low Sanction: Spells related to that moon are cast as if they use a slot one level lower. Reduce damage and effects appropriately or give Advantage on save if the level is...

D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master: how about -5 AC instead of -5 to hit?

You're right: I'm getting it mixed up with Reckless Attack. Do note that some sources (like this one) don't mention the armour limitation for Rage. I think I mentioned this possibility in my OP. Nor necessarily is the poleaxe. Easton's is 6' but he mentions some poleaxes being much shorter.

D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master: how about -5 AC instead of -5 to hit?

I see. I think that may be a little too weak but it does have the benefit of KISS. So it's a good start.

D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master: how about -5 AC instead of -5 to hit?

Good question. What would you suggest? Do you mean next Attack Action? Because a level 5 fighter can take their second attack immediately. How about having it last a duration based on initiative count? Say 10 points of initiative count or initiative count 20 of the next round, whichever comes...

D&D 5E (2014) How does that Fighter, Barbarian or Rogue become king? Bring on the Feat

Indeed, but they're usually puppets or charismatic fools (e.g. Commodus had high Cha but low Int and Wis).

D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master: how about -5 AC instead of -5 to hit?

I've just been watching a Matt Easton video about poleaxes and he makes the point that if you make a power blow you leave yourself open. Especially if you miss. In D&D terms this would be equivalent to giving opponents Advantage or -5 AC. I think in this case that -5 AC is much more...

D&D 5E (2014) How does that Fighter, Barbarian or Rogue become king? Bring on the Feat

The point of the feat is not to rule but to help the PC get there.

D&D 5E (2014) How does that Fighter, Barbarian or Rogue become king? Bring on the Feat

That's the point: the PC doesn't have the stats to back up the roleplay.

D&D 5E (2014) How does that Fighter, Barbarian or Rogue become king? Bring on the Feat

There's nothing stopping a Fighter or Rogue or Barbarian starting off with good mental stats.

D&D 5E (2014) How does that Fighter, Barbarian or Rogue become king? Bring on the Feat

It's classic Conan, going from vagabond to king. And it happened in real life too. But take a look at the typical Fighter, Barbarian, and Rogue: one or more of Int, Wis, and Cha are dump stats. Sure you can take the Skilled Feat, but as a king you're taking important decisions and trying to...

D&D 5E (2014) The Resting Mechanics - What Works Best?

I like the idea of the duration of the type of rest being location dependent, but I think that just as important is what gets recovered: many classes recover absolutely everything on a long rest. Primarily the spellcasting classes that aren't the Warlock. We did this in another thread a while...
