    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: Oberon

I sit in awe at your write-ups. How about imposing Disadvantage on rolls to wake up? Or eliminate the wake-up roll if the target would otherwise go to sleep normally (e.g. at the end of a day)? Otherwise people aren't going to stay asleep for long. This seems a little low for someone who's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Epic Monsters: Pan

I was re-reading this and had an idea: what if Pan were continually incarnating itself? This also riffs off the classical Greek word 'pan' which means 'everything'. I'm not sure how you'd write it. Something like Incarnation. At will or if killed Pan may self-incarnate, taking the place of a...

    D&D 5E (2014) The fighter's Indomitable ability

I think it's important for the Fighter's abilities to be keyed off a Short Rest. KISS applies and it's the class shtick.

    D&D 5E (2014) The fighter's Indomitable ability

As I've written it, Indomitable can apply to Death saves.

    D&D 5E (2014) The fighter's Indomitable ability

I didn't take part in the playtest but IIRC - and someone who was can confirm - Indomitable was at one point a flat Advantage on all saving throws.

    D&D 5E (2014) The fighter's Indomitable ability

In the years since I posted my OP I have come to the conclusion that Indomitable should mean that you automatically pass the save, just like Legendary Resistance. This addresses many of the issues raised in this thread. In particular it prevents an enemy Diviner wizard negating it which is...

D&D 5E (2014) Philosophy of Greataxe vs. Greatsword

One thing you may be forgetting is technology. It requires lesser technology to forge a great axe than a 2H sword. Less steel too. 2H swords may simply not be available. For example, if the campaign is set in Migration-era Europe then there are no 2H swords.

D&D General How AD&D Handled 'Attunement': The Magic of the Item Saving Throw Table

3E had the Christmas tree problem and the easy way of dealing with it was Disjunction. Anyone who has access to this spell should lead off with it. But we've had that discussion a time or three.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spear houserule

How about this: A simple spear is a spear either with a fire-hardened wood tip or a crudely converted agricultural tool. It is a Simple weapon, may be thrown, and does d6 damage. When wielded two-handed it gains the Reach property. The latter example of this spear can be disguised as the...

D&D 5E (2014) Feats at first level (i.e. generalising Theros' idea)

Not religion but race. Drop the racial stat bumps and let them choose a racially related feat instead. For example an elf might choose between Alert, Observant, and Skulker; a dwarf might choose between Durable and Tough. Humans get the variant human package without the stat bumps and with an...

    D&D 5E (2014) Less killing

Perhaps you should consider an alternative game system? One that places less emphasis on combat. D&D is the original looter-shooter game.

D&D 5E (2014) 9th level NPC wizard, what is your "Minimum Personal Security" suite?

I think you need to think about which spells would already be in effect. For instance the whole place (possibly with holes) should be under a Mordenkainen's Private Sanctum spell. There should be loads of Glyphs of Warding just waiting to be uncovered and activated. Stinking Cloud and Cloudkill...

Anyone else looking forwards to Tiny Tina's Wonderlands?

I absolutely loved the Tiny Tina DLC in Borderlands 2. It was a love letter to D&D. And Tiny Tina's Wonderlands looks like it's going to be more of the same. Roll for initiative!
