    My First Game: Top Secret/SI

I loved this game. By the by, when you are assigned to a SCIF (Secure Communications/Information Facility) Do NOT take your books in to work on campaign stuff during down time. Getting them out with TOP SECRET all over them is a pain. Not that I would know. Just something I heard...once.

Let's Talk About Fantasy heartbreaks and other FRPGs

The first non D&D fantasy game system was Rolemaster wayyyy back in the day. After realizing you needed a slide rule, a degree in statistics and complete lack of anything else to do for the next 12 hours... I passed. lol (hyperbole for those that can't read sarcasm) Then GURPS I've hated...

Need some good putdowns from a snobbish noble

My favorite is this one... 'Ah, here (hands PC his/her glass) thank you.' Implies the minor noble is a servant sent to collect the empties. Another is 'Excuse me, goodman (good man), can you fetch my coach?' Actually talking down to the person requires that you acknowledge their status...

Why do Americans pronounce centaurs "centars"???

As someone that served with Brits, Canucks, Aussies, Kiwis and Herms (Germans) let me say our discussions of language over pints/liters of beir/beer/ale were Ledg uhn darry. LOL And if you wonder why I threw the Germans in, English is Germanic derivative. Frankly, it was more fun poking at...

Has anyone got any flak for buildung a character that wasnt optimized?

Rules lawyers, optimizers, Min-Maxers, etc are all poor players. Older editions were built to make to make you role play not roll play. Somewhere people wanted to 'win' and that has been the sad state of the hobby ever since. If they want to play that way, more power too them, as for me, they...

Max number of days you can provision for?

Of course arming coat, armor, and weapons, all strapped in by leather and held in wood and leather sheaths or frogs. Yeah I'd say our fantasy counterparts know about humping a ruck. lol

Max number of days you can provision for?

So... where to begin. Modern caloric intake is 2000 per day. So assuming water is not included, you are looking at dried salt meat, non-leavened or cracker bread (hardtack) and possibly nuts and natural cheese (historically cheese was unrefidgerated). So 1.5 pounds to 2 pounds is probably spot...

Someone once asked Rod how fast warp 2 was, he offhandedly replied it was approximately the speed of plot.

Gate Pass Gazette Art Preview of the Spiderfolk!

Spiders tend to be a little beefier. It's only the legs that are thin. The body could probably do with an extra pound or 20. lol

I always thought like the Yian-Ti, Drider should be able to have different forms, this would be a good template for that variant.

I concur, we had an intestinal flu hit just as Omicron got here. I had the former, was worried for a couple days though.

D&D General instead of using spells slots ...

One final note.. this system will work with every edition of D&D except 4th, because 4th did away with slots and spells. It will also work with any game that uses a point buy/mana/reserve system.

D&D General instead of using spells slots ...

That pretty much is the system. The great part is that it is modular by design so each table, campaign, whatever can alter 'to taste' . Want rituals to be expensive and fewer in number? books are rare and cost a fortune. Don't like the way 'Mage Hand' scales? Change it, at the table...

D&D General instead of using spells slots ...

Yep, all of the 'utility' magic would be very much like traditional fantasy magic. Cauldrons, incantations, material co mponents, etc. These would be cost free BUT would require the caster to set-up and perform the ritual to cast. (So non combat spells). Meanwhile, everything else is...

    Replicators

Yeah, I got the sense that the writers that came up with it said, 'hey, what a great idea!' and the effects staff said, 'hey, what a bunch of morons.' lol..

D&D General instead of using spells slots ...

There is a way to make it work, but it requires a hybrid technique. Using the new ritual system and making things like location, identification, resurrection and divination rituals with long casting times and varied spell components, and lowering the number of points available per level to...

Let me just say as a drummer my best p/u line is: "I have limb independence, great rhythm, stamina and by the way I sing lead from behind the kit so my mouth works independent of the rest of me." It's surprisingly effective. :D
