    Matt Colville weighs in.

I think "You can't take the dice from me!" is our new anthem.

WotC Backs Down: Original OGL To Be Left Untouched; Whole 5E Rules Released as Creative Commons

Hopefully permanently. Though WotC has burned so much goodwill I'm not certain whether to celebrate yet. How do we know we can trust them?

OGL 1.2 survey is now live

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT (No, I didn't use that acronym in my survey feedback).

OGL 1.2 survey is now live

I'm making it clear my red line. BLUF: DO NOT DEAUTHORIZE THE OGL1.0(a).

WotC Unveils Draft of New Open Gaming License

Huh. Improving. But I'm thinking I don't like it because they are trying to put toothpaste back in the tube: taking formerly open content and trying to make it closed. I think that's a no-go.

D&D 5E (2024) How much would you spend on monthly subscriptions for dnd?

If I can just buy the books by themselves, I don't need a subscription.

I think they got what they wanted

And in that moment the RPG smiths heard the words and knew they had been deceived ... OneD&D to rule them all OneD&D to fight them OneD&D to bring them all And in the darkness bind them. In the land of WotC where the shadows lie.

OGL Controversy -- EN World action? (proposal)

Given the current OGL controversy and the need to pressure WotC to back down and endorse OGL1.0(a)'s continued existence, I wondered if the powers that be here at EN World (i.e., Morrus) would be open to a modest proposal. To whit: Take down (or at least mask) the "Upcoming D&D" sidebar and all...

D&D 5E (2024) How much would you spend on monthly subscriptions for dnd?

So there's a monthly physical product coming with a monthly subscription?

D&D 5E (2024) How much would you spend on monthly subscriptions for dnd?

Not a damn cent without a physical product. If Dungeon & Dragon were republished in paper I'd subscribe again. Otherwise, I buy products I feel I will use but I will not subscribe to something transient.

Cancelling MTG accounts as the next move

I can do that. This is war. War is a battle of wills. Our will has to be stronger than theirs for as long as it takes for them to surrender. (To be honest -- I can't hurt WotC much myself as they were the only company I bought D&D content from! Though no D&D movie or Baldur's Gate 3 for me now.)

Cancelling MTG accounts as the next move

Not just MTG. We need to pressure every WotC licensee right now. Dropping licenses cuts off brand growth which is one of the thing they are targeting for revenue growth. The D&D brand needs to become (temporarily) radioactive to get WotC to surrender.

Why I'm not boycotting the movie, video games, comic books or novels over the OGL scandal, just D&DB & hardcovers.

We haven't won anything yet -- and will not have won until WotC waves a white flag and confirms to deauthorization of the OGL. And have you seen the new D&DB plans? We need to hit their wallet harder -- which means going after every company that licenses content from WotC. We need not just...

D&D 5E (2024) New leak looks real bad

Geez, and I thought playing GW games was the equivalent of being in an abusive relationship. Man, I'm loving Free League, Kobold, and Paizo right now.

D&D 5E (2024) RPG Evolution: The Art of the Apology

There's a step zero -- you have to actually be sorry and intend to mean it. In WotC's case, I don't think they are sorry except in the sense of "we're sorry we're not going to make the money we planned and that you didn't fall for our exploitive plan."

So WHY Didn't The OGL Contain The Word 'Irrevocable'?

So TL;DR -- Thought they had it covered, never thought WotC would be this evil?
  17. O

    D&D 5E (2014) Will you continue to give WotC D&D your $$$

Not a penny to WotC or their "brand" until OGL1.0(a) is publicly acknowledged as irrevocable (or the equivalent). I've got enough D&D products on my shelf for several lifetimes of game play.

Hasbro/WotC has crossed the Trust Thermocline

WotC is pulling a TSR. Which after NuTSR this year is surprising and saying something.

Parachute Fund for WotC employees looking to leave

Good idea. Also ... how much money would we have to raise for Paizo to buy D&D from Hasbro?

D&D 5E (2014) So this is how D&D 5e dies, a beautiful start only to die in disgrace because of mismanagement. RIP 5e

... to thunderous applause No. Fight back. It does not have to end this way. The gaming community has the power -- we own D&D by dint of being WotC/Hasbro's source of funds. If we keep up the pressure and deny them profits they will change behavior.
