Podcast #210 Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Preview

I'm torn between whether calling NuTSR out on their horrible existence is important or if that's just giving them unwanted attention and we'd be better off ignoring their idiocy entirely. How best to make sure that sort of thing dies? NuTSR appears to be one of those trolls who feeds on flames...

D&D General The Owlbear Druid: How Would You Do It? (A Poll)

As a few others have posted, I'd allow it by just using bear stats. For fun ... 'cause I just watched the Disney movie Red ... a druid with a magical curse/disease/lineage who can only become an owlbear, and does it anytime they become stressed and fail a Will save. Comedy ensues.

D&D Movie/TV Dungeons and Dragons Movie Trailer, no, not that one, 2000

Thanks for reminding me why I don't have a copy of this in my D&D collection.

I'm not sure that kind of druid would call his friends "Monsters". "They're not monsters, they're just misunderstood." - Hagrid T. Scamander, Circle of Misunderstood Magical Creatures Druid

    D&D Movie/TV Here's The D&D Movie Trailer!

If the cast quotes Monty Python or the Princess Bride, they will have 100% nailed the D&D game vibe.

RPG Evolution: Solving the Gnome Problem

Gnomes are actually a halfling conspiracy to redirect antipathy against small folk. The don't actually exist, but their image makes halflings far more acceptable by comparison.

RPG Evolution: The Trouble with Halflings

Good grief, 46 pages. Popular topic. I like my halflings as hobbits, because Tolkien was my introduction to fantasy. But the next best ones are the cannibalistic ones from Dark Sun.

Why Dragonlance's Margaret Weis Left TSR: A Slaying the Dragon Excerpt

Yeah, up until this point we were giving her the benefit of the doubt because she was a woman trying to make it in male-dominated corporate America, so clearly the stories were overblown and misogynist propaganda. Turns out she actually was a spawn of Demogorgon. Who knew?

    All Aboard the Invisible Railroad!

Part of the art of DMing is knowing when to offer real choice versus the illusion of choice. Two plot hooks that lead to the same place: illusion of choice. Two paths than offer different hazards that can be negotiated separately: choice. There's a place for both. What I think DM's should try...

Oona and the wolf. You know, I'm really looking forward to the eventual reveal of CitD, though there will be a loss of mystery. 'Cause I'm at a loss as to what he/she/it/they are.

What If Sauron Won? Check Out This Trailer For The MIDNIGHT RPG!

I'm glad you pointed that out. I just opened the book and started reading last night -- first exposure to the Midnight setting -- and got about five pages in to some great description and said "where's the map?" which was followed by 15 minutes of flipping pages looking for a map which I didn't...

    Cartoons as RPG Settings

I hear the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon was so successful it launched the entire concept of RPGs. ... I'll show myself out. (But I always did think Thundarr the Barbarian was someone's Gamma World campaign. And Titan AE could have inspired Star Frontiers but it was the other way round. Is there...

I thought others might wonder about the reason for my question.

I saw Top Gun Maverick (spoilers)

Yeah, it's Hollywood. So they wont follow the rules or expect realism, and would likely have hand-waved everything. But I was curious if they attempted an explanation. But with the assumption that the movies are contemporary to their release dates (so Top Gun is set in 1986 and Maverick 2022)...

I saw Top Gun Maverick (spoilers)

What I want to know is if they justified (or attempted to justify) Maverick's age and career length. He's about a dozen years past mandatory retirement date without a significant break in service.
