D&D 5E (2014) Aberrant Mark, Why only the sorcerer spell list?

So as some others have stated, it's mostly an Eberron lore issue. Not only is the sorcerer spell list the one that includes the most destructive type spells, but aberrant marks are typically tied to bloodlines and mutations, similar to true dragonmarks. Thus, the power of any dragonmark...

D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian wants to damage himself to keep rage going

If I get mad, and I can see the target of my anger, I don't just stop being angry if I don't act on that anger for 6 seconds (isn't that why you're supposed to count to 10?). This is especially true if I am running at that target or looking for / imagining creative and previously unexplored ways...

D&D 5E (2014) Mysteries, Zone of Truth, and Savvy Players?

Honestly, I hadn't thought about that particular Command. That could work, but it is pretty resource intensive, especially since you need to get by multiple saves. In general, I'm thinking about the Zone of Truth - Torture combination from a World Building angle. So while the spell lasts for...

D&D 5E (2014) Mysteries, Zone of Truth, and Savvy Players?

Not sure that would work. Command is specifically limited to a single word command. Making the command, "Speak" will force the person to talk, but there's nothing saying they have to say anything related to the questions being asked. Additionally, Command only lasts a round, so you are forcing...

D&D 5E (2014) Mysteries, Zone of Truth, and Savvy Players?

There's a really good episode of Burn Notice that demonstrates this technique. Luca the Watchmaker/Bombmaker gives Sam Axe a run for his money by providing too much information, but all of it vague and basically continuous misdirects. Zone of Truth is an interesting spell that can have a lot of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Retainers/followers/companions: how?

So the health system is a bit different, but the level up issue isn't too difficult. Retainers should in general be half the average level of the party to a max of 7. Leveling up a retainer is pretty easy, as it really only affects their health levels and when certain abilities get unlocked...

    D&D 5E (2014) Homebrew question. Elemental Warlock.

Choose the imp or quasi, reskin it as an appropriate elemental type creature to fit your concept, and maybe work with your DM to exchange their attacks to something more appropriate to the elemental theme you're going for. Personally, I try to use existing things with minimal mechanical tweaks...

    D&D 5E (2014) Here's why we want a Psion class

@Aldarc I second that. Eberron is my primary campaign setting, and it would be great to have some official psionics to really differentiate Sarlona/Riedra from Khorvaire and Xen'drik. It's like fantasy psionic North Korea. And of course there is the Kalashtar. I have a few psionic flavored...

D&D 5E (2014) I wish they had a Sorcerer that had access to the Druid spell list like...

Well a lot of what you can do is reflavor existing sorcerer spells to be more nature themed. For example, Acid Splash could be a summoned creature spitting acid, and poison spray could be pulling out a mushroom and squeezing spores out of it. Spider Climb could look like you are actually...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell, Item, or Feat?

Being a Kobold, he may have some inherent connection to the Draconic Prophecy that is guiding his research as well. Kobolds in Eberron tell stories of being related to the great dragons, so perhaps at least in this case it's true. Or perhaps even the last remaining scion of the couatls that...

My understanding is that Xanathar's Lost Notes to Everything Else is not official or AL legal. Has this changed?

D&D 5E (2014) I wish they had a Sorcerer that had access to the Druid spell list like...

Unfortunately outside of multiclassing sorcerer/druid (which likely won't achieve the results you're looking for) there isn't an official way to do this that I am aware of. The best option would be to work with your DM. Even those who primarily only run official content are often willing to work...

D&D 5E (2014) Have we rebalanced the Champion Yet?

I don't typically think nerfing other classes is as fun or effective as buffing less effective classes. My solution has been to grant a +2 bonus to damage whenever the Champion gets an improvement on their crit range. Seems to work fine for my table.

    D&D 5E (2014) GM Adjudicating assistance please

Some good advice in here, so I'll try not to replicate too much. But if I was running this encounter, here are my thoughts. So there are some interesting things in here. If the weapons are a special kind of harpoon, then something to consider is that your players may be able to grab them from...

D&D 5E (2014) What Spells Would You Nerf? (and how would you change them...)

I've actually rewrote all the conjuration spells that summon creatures to instead summon a retainer as presented in Strongholds and Followers. Different spells summon a different kind a retainer (conjure woodland creatures will be limited to barbarian retainers, while conjure elemental will...

    D&D 5E (2014) Wish: additional 9th level slot

Sorry, perhaps you didn't see the edit I made prior to you posting your response. I wasn't trying to disagree with how you play your games. Every table is different and no one is wrong in how they play. Rather I am disagreeing with idea that something like the mechanical concepts of spell slots...

D&D 5E (2014) Anyone granting max HP to PCs by default?

I ran a game that gave PCs max HP and it went from level 1 to 15. The characters had ridiculous pools of HP. To make challenging encounters, I had to seriously up the damage output of enemies. It wasn't terrible, but I don't think I'll be doing that again.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wish: additional 9th level slot

I disagree. Even if the concepts of spell slots or levels are not explicitly "in-game" concepts, I would argue that spellcasters are aware of the differences between kinds of spells and their relative power level. In character a spellcaster might not wish for an extra 9th level spell slot, but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Wish: additional 9th level slot

I might allow it, kind of. The wish would grant them an orb. Breaking the orb as an action would grant them the ability to cast a 9th level spell they know (except wish) without expending a spell slot. If they wanted anything more than that, like a permanent extra 9th level spell slot, each...

D&D 5E (2014) Using magic armor to attack

I'd rule that it functions like a magic weapon. I don't know if that's RAW, but it doesn't seem to break the game and would increase that player's sense of fun. The spikes only deal a d4 anyways.
