Crits & stuff happens. :(
When it does I just file the sheet away in the folder. Then, sometime later, when I need a new character, the PC wakes up having had a disturbing dream & I'm ready to play again....
Incorrect sir.
As proof I point out that it's DMG lacks both the humorous b&w cartoon bits AND the random harlot table. Without those....
Clearly an inferior product.
And the two TV "movies".
And the 1940s serial.
The trend here is that each outing for CA improved from the previous effort.
I think that trend ended with CA: Winter Soldier though as Civil Way was practically Avengers III.
Currently only running a 5e campaign.
And playing assorted miniature wargames - mostly WWII, 40k, & WHFB/Sigmar.
Both largely with the same limited circle thanks to the pandemic.
I routinely use my 1e DMG - assorted charts & magic items.
My 1e Fiend Folio also sees plenty of use.
Beyond this what gets used is purely situational.
Atm I'm also using the module Ravenlift II: House on Gryphon Hill.
Well, to steal a line from the MCU, "It's all connected".
And the connective tissue for anything not set on the same world? Is the planes.
They provide the back & forth as well as the forward & backwards.
At the most basic "the planes" are where the gods (often) reside, the afterlife is...

Friends place. With a tightly controlled group of 4, sometimes a 5th.
As I've said before, we're around each other enough as is that spending another 4-6 hours together rolling some dice isn't going to make any difference.
Make sure your group is ok with helping Drow/Duargar/Koa-Toans & other such beings they'd traditionally see as mortal enemies.
For ex;
My group? As they escaped the Drow in the opening chapter they intentionally killed the Drow, Kuo-Toan, & quaggoth prisoners. They took the myconid, dwarf, &...
Wow, that's way different my copy.
I never bothered picking up the orange cover because I assumed it was just the typical re-cover like the Isle of Dread (mines blue) or alot of the 1e modues that went from mono-chrome to new color art.
There's a fair bit of the old stuff where you need to...
No, there isn't.
There are friends you can play D&D with, & there are friends you can't. He's one of the latter.
And he's telling you this. So listen.
So play D&D with one group of friends on game night & just do other stuff with him on a different day/evening.
