I can't think of who does that though, maybe some small indie publisher producing modules. I can't think of any of my core rule books that came like that. However Dark Heresy and Shadow of the Demon Lord really bother me to read, the colors and textured paper hurts my eyes.

3d6 is too many dice, slower to get to the total, doesnt clickty clack enough, and too boring results compared to d20.

I think when you have bought enough from Amazon, your realize that they will always promote the junk products with the most reviews and if you want quality you need to order the hidden products, which take weeks.

There was no CR in 1e/2e, I would calculate the avg dmg/round that could be output by either side and compare it to the players and monsters total hit points, then make it so the battle was even. Of course the players did something unexpected that turned the tide. But all this was unnecessary...

But thats not true, since the bite attack does fire damage too. Pushing the damage to fire means raging barbarians get even more damage for ancient. I don't think its a mistake. (Wouldn't be my first choice since they tried to make damage related to weapon size).

You can add party of 5 on dndcombat.com and for the one fighter test full blown simulated battles with or without the +1 strength over multiple encounters. I doubt it will make much of a difference.
