RPG Evolution: My Gaming Goals for 2024

I don't normally set new year resolutions, so I'm not actually making one. But this year I would definitely like to play Dungeon Crawl Classics with my friends. I know, that seems like a low bar- I'd meet the goal by playing one time. But given we recently paused our weekly 90-minute games...

    Peregrine's Nest: Candela Obscura Review

Its interesting- review notes how you roll once to see if you can sneak into the building and crack the safe, instead of rolling for each little action on the way. I struggle with systems like this because it starts to feel too much. Like we’re just telling stories- I guess I like more crunch...

Best "rats in the tavern cellar" map?

I did a search on adventurelookup.com and at least one came up, but definitely less than I thought. https://adventurelookup.com/adventures?environments=Town%2FVillage~Dungeon&setting=Setting%20Neutral&commonMonsters=Rat~Rat%2C%20Giant~Wererat&minStartingLevel=%E2%89%A51~%E2%89%A41

I’m Agree- that would be my other choice. It’s gorgeous. I also love the Jeff Easley cover.

    General DCC RPG thread

I bought the music of the spheres is chaos, but I haven't bought the core rules because MAN, does that Erol Otus cover (for the core rules reprint) look amazing, or what??

    General DCC RPG thread

Oh- I have a question. Do the DCC adventures take place in some sort of canonical setting? Like is there a map that shows where Sagar-Matha is in relation to Punjar, or things like that? Maybe it’s in the core rule book which I don’t have yet?

What are you reading in 2024?

I started reading the dying earth by Jack Vance just the other day. I haven't really been reading at all since we had a kid a few years back. It's been really cool to just... read. And the stories- man, they're weird! I'm reading it to see if I'm interested in the Dying Earth boxed set for...

[DCC RPG] Purple Planet reprint & Erol Otus cover...

I think I’ve been bitten by the DCC bug. I suddenly find their stuff really compelling and I’m still feeling grumpy towards hasbro. I signed up to get notified for the backerkit launch in a month. Now I’m going to go read the quick start pdf. What am I getting myself into??

D&D General What did D&D teach you?

oh yeah, I get bitten by that ALL the time. My wife made fun of me a while back when I mispronounced virile as viral. Oof. And brassiere vs brassier.

D&D General What did D&D teach you?

I had to look up the central limit theorem, and keep looking until I found a version I understood. Found one here: https://statisticsbyjim.com/basics/central-limit-theorem/ That is fascinating- I took statistics in college, but it’s been a long time and it never really stuck with me. Also I...

D&D General What did D&D teach you?

Looking back now, I can’t recall how I played. I know I always had a 1st level magic user and had the same issue. But I was having so much fun. I wonder if it was because it was all new to me and it’s not like I had tons of other entertainment options?
