D&D 5E (2014) I hate choosing between ASIs and Feats

I totally agree with you. In the homebrew campaign I am starting in a few weeks, ASIs are not an option, feats are the only option. To me, this further links to the desire to have meaningful ability scores. My table will use the following ability score generation: roll two ability score sets...

How do you introduce a monster?

DM: looks a lot like john snow from the tv series game of thrones, but blonde and wearing full plate armor. Player: okay, we move along, he's already dead.

How do you introduce a monster?

This. Precisely. Less then 10 words are usually enough to get all the required info needed to allow your players to conjure an image in their mind that will allow you all to play the game. No need to spoon-feed your players with details about how you imagine the monster. They are sitting at your...

How do you introduce a monster?

Glad you didn't opt for the long version ;-P

    D&D 5E (2014) Why is the pike 18 lbs?!?!?

This problem is truly significant enough in your campaign as a DM that you wish to post about it? ;) Or, if we want to actually look at this: that NPC would be fine at 13.5 pounds, but at 18 pounds he's encumbered? I mean, this is pretty corner case we're talking about here. It's already...

    D&D 5E (2014) Polearm Master feat...where's my spear?

Include a Longspear in your game, give it 1d10 damage and reach, add it to the eligible list in the Polearm Master feat, remove the thrown property from it, and refluff the "spear" entry to have it be, essentially, too short for use as a polearm.

Would you care to provide examples of how you'd balance things out?

What Do Treants, Gelatinous Cubes, Mimics, and Displacer Beasts Have In Common?

The new set looks interesting. I admit that the paint jobs have been underwhelming in past sets. Perhaps this time around the pain will be better.

D&D 5E (2014) Rolled character stats higher than point buy?

By "post a rolled character", you mean on the discussion boards? If so, then I assume it's simply because no one discusses "ordinary" stuff. In the same way that you don't post about your morning ride to work where nothing happened. It's not that playing the character is boring, the game might...

    D&D 5E (2014) Polytheistic Clerics

I don't think it's that complicated, and I like the idea of a prayer to one god that (possibly) gives access to a new spell, to add a mechanic to the polytheist story. Good stuff.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ravenloft= Meh

(I haven't read beyond page 1 of this thread.) While I see your point, I like that D&D adventures (/paths) offer very niche experiences. I prefer that tenfold to uniformized adventures that are all based on the same base setting/environment, more or less. This of course means that some settings...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Pacing Guide

This is a great thread discussing advanced notions of RPG. Good stuff all around. Kudos to all for the very non-confrontational tone, too. Makes reading interesting, and the very nuanced opinions come out as very thoughtful, to me; as opposed to the very stubborn, I'm right-and-you're-wrong...

D&D 5E (2014) Deal Breakers - Or woah, that is just too much

Yeah, if a player doesn't drink (preferably excessively), he's out of my group as well.

    Con Artists?

Answer: you're now in another gaming system :) D&D is a good heroic RPG for battling monsters and taking their loot. It is (IMO) a poor system for deep social interaction or complex mind games. You can explore this avenue, but I don't think the system will support satisfying solutions for you.

January 2016 Sage Advice - All About AC

I've tried ignoring rules at work, arguing that I'm a DM and consequently, I just can. So much for my job. It was fun while it lasted.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

My text was unclear. Please ignore "another" before the word "player". I was referring to the fact that both the player and the DM are players, ultimately, in the same game, and the player's PC benefits from something that goes on between the players. Combat indeed includes some metagaming, as...
