D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

Yes. Thank you for sharing your experience with that.

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

Yes, I am worried about that. I like this one. I am a fan of custom feats.

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

I lean toward thalmin's position on this. I wouldn't want to see any scores drop below 8. Nor would I want to see a player take a -1 in their character's lowest four scores.

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

I'm against giving away unearned levels. Haven't done it since the 80's. That's an interesting idea, but I like the backgrounds part of 5E quite a bit. I'd probably allow that, though, if a player asked to give up their skills and such from their background in exchange for a feat. Seems like...

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

I'm leery of breaking the cap of 17 at first level, for now. Even my min-maxer player has complained about stats being too high when we played 3.5/PF and earlier test runs of 5E using PF's point-buy system. Especially, when he takes a turn at DMing.

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

This is what I'll likely end up doing. I was leery of allowing scores to potentially exceed the normal thresholds set by point buy (max 17 with racial +2). Though, I could say that the ability score increase option at 1st level wouldn't allow the raising of a score beyond 17. So, it would...

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

Considering that the variant human would be down four ability score points for a feat and proficiency in one skill, it would seem like a sub-par trade, to me. I'm not sure why they didn't just let the variant human have two feats instead of (seemingly) overcharging (by two ability score points)...

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

Thank you. I'd forgotten about the Skilled feat. I was basing my estimations of a feat's worth compared to ability scores on the adjustments to the variant human, but if the Skilled feat gives that much of a bonus, the designers probably thought that a feat at first level was worth more than...

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

A couple of the players prefer very straight forward characters, without a lot of options to think about, especially options at character creation (which they don't enjoy as much as playing the game). Forcing them to pick a feat wouldn't be fun for them.

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

Hello, everyone. I'm considering giving all the characters the option of having a feat at first level. At first, I'd considered just letting all the characters have a feat for free. But, then I thought that I really didn't want to force all the players to pick a feat (as some wouldn't want...

    D&D 5E (2014) Not liking Bounded Accuracy

I love Bounded Accuracy for the same reasons that I loved E6 in the 3X era. It keeps the die roll relevant while keeping bonuses in my perceived sweet spot. It achieves what I would have wanted to do with E6 in 3X while still allowing a 20 level progression. I also love the idea of one attack...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition Intelligence

Player: My PC has a brilliant idea to do... DM: You're character has an Intelligence of 6. Make an Intelligence check to see if your character could think of that. DC 14.

    D&D 5E (2014) Action & Reaction

So, you can ready an action, but you can't just choose to delay your action and then act later, right?

D&D 5E (2014) Why such little content (books) for Dnd 5e?

Personally, I'm pleased with the 5E release schedule and 5E as a whole. And, I do like the idea of just one or two adventure paths a year with a player's companion to go with them. I like this model, a lot. I wouldn't mind a Monster Manual 2, a Fiend Folio, or a Player's Handbook 2. But...

    D&D 5E (2014) Enlarge beyond Large

It sounds to me that there's something about being magically enlarged that isn't the same as being naturally a larger size. Perhaps, a 2nd level slot isn't really powerful enough to fully duplicate the effects of changing to a larger size. Maybe the mass isn't effectively duplicated? Maybe...
