Which 'foreign' languages have seen D&D?

The quality of FSV's translation was dubious. Quality control was pretty much non-existent, so German adventurers could buy torch lights for the dungeon. Regarding the naming of monsters there were some curious translations as well, but one has to consider that theirs was the first try at such a...

    Preparedness for a home invasion

I consider it much more likely to be hit by a car when crossing the street. This I prepare for by being observant. But intruders in our home? Completely unprepared for. We don't own any weapon (save some good cooking knives). None of us has ever received any martial training. But what I don't...

FANTASY GROUNDS Confirms D&D 5E Lead On VTTs

And what makes this even more fun: The fifth edition of DSA launches on August, 7th. :) The new rules set will be so complicated, of course, that it will probably take some time until someone hast coded it in FG.

Crazy or crazy like a fox?

Simple but clever trick: don't shoot yourself into your mouth with it! Come to think of it ... that's a good tip for other firearms, too.

[July 2015] What Are You Reading?

I just started Andrzeij Sapkowsky's "Blood of Elves". Not sure of the story after a hundred pages, but the book is written (and translated) using a beautiful language at least compared to many fantasy books of today.

    Best simple purchase you've made

Our first "Grillkamin". Sorry, I don't know the English noun for it, so a description has to suffice: You put it on your grill, fill it with coals, place some sheets of newspaper in the bottom part and light it. Half an hour later the coals are in perfect condition. Before we acquired this...

Crazy or crazy like a fox?

Why do you call it crazy? It works! Our board game gave one of those as present to the guy who noted it to us two years ago. You should have seen the gleam in his eyes when he unwrapped it.

Wherein we ask each other dialect questions we don't quite understand

One question came up in the context of the thread reagarding funerals: what's the difference between a casket and a coffin?

What will you do in your old age?

Ah, thanks for the explanation, which pretty much explains why I never heard about it. So they try to garner members by their mailings? Judging by other replies their works is not universally acclaimed...

    Beating the old bag

I started cycle training again last weekend. I want to do a one week trip in September, in a region a bit more hilly than my home turf (which is plain and simple flat). So I staked out a route of some 50 miles going to and through the only hilly area close by which gives a total rise of some...

Do You Like The Cover of the New Conan RPG?

No, but... The colour composition is weird, but this may be corrected. I like the image composition, though, bringing the conanesque guy into the spotlight and presenting the woman as sidekick. Another weirdness is the head of the big serpent/dragon; it's much to angular for my taste.

AD&D 2E Are all my 2E books worthless now?

The other ENWorlders already told you about converting 2e stuff to 5e standards, but one thing is still missing from the discussion: 2e was the era of worlds and backgrounds! So if your slightly dusted library contains background stuff, e.g. for Dragonlance, you're golden. WotC has not published...

    I have a job

Congrats, Nellisir! And regarding the downside of having to travel you might want to prepare an assortment of RPG characters and drop in to groups in different places. :)

What will you do in your old age?

My mother and step-father both live retired in a small rented house in a rural area. My step-father is tending his garden, my mother goes shopping twice a week and like do bake. They're still quite mobile at age 79 and 74 and don't suffer any serious health issues, so their style of living may...

    Dungeons & Dragons Rules Cyclopedia

painted_klown, if you want to re-live the old way of playing and growing you should really get some of the old B-modules as well. They assume the basic rules only and limit themselves to this are of play, namely dungeon crawling. When your players have reached level 3 and are ready to proceed...
