    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8 Monk Discussion

Good direction for the Monk, but... I'm still worried. They don't have any exploration features or skill bumps, when all the other martials are getting some. Even Barbarian and Fighter do. Lots of new tricks, but without using BA for attacks, we're looking at the worst damage from a...

Shortbow is a simple weapon, so Monks already get that too.

    D&D 5E (2024) UA 8 Barbarian Discussion

Loving Barbarian. I just wish Brutal Strikes were at the same levels Rogue got Cunning Strike.

D&D 5E (2024) New Unearthed Arcana Playtest Includes Barbarian, Druid, and Monk

Well, here's my takes Barbarian continues to look awesome. The fixes to Rage are brilliant, Brutal Strikes are good, I'm liking everything. The only thing I would do is move Brutal Strikes down to 5, then the other two shuffled down to fill in the blanks. Druid... made me sad. They're...

D&D 5E (2024) Gold & Other Treasure (Can we get off the treadmill?)

That's the thing. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO LOOK BEYOND WOTC FOR THAT. Its their job to provide tools for storytelling. I'm paying THEM real money to do it. That's not only a cop out, its also giving DMs more homework to do, which is not good.

D&D 5E (2024) Gold & Other Treasure (Can we get off the treadmill?)

The opposite is "WotC creating opportunities for gold spending in the core books" as opposed to "tables having to figure this out themselves." Not "the players figured out their own gold sinks" because, fundamentally, the DM is responsible for how the world responds to players; the two are...

D&D 5E (2024) Gold & Other Treasure (Can we get off the treadmill?)

In other words... "Look at all the stuff my DM homebrewed for us." Or effectively throwing it in the trash. Yes, the problem is solvable, but DMs shouldn't have to be the ones to make things up.

D&D 5E (2024) Gold & Other Treasure (Can we get off the treadmill?)

I'm not sure I would say that I would say the lack of prices is the biggest failure. Though it is quite annoying, I'd have to point to other issues myself as the worst. Personally I always found the insistence that you need to be a spellcaster to make magic weapons to be the greater failing...

D&D 5E (2024) Gold & Other Treasure (Can we get off the treadmill?)

I once was part of a 3e game where we just... spent a couple of game days just building a town for survivors we met. Not exactly downtime, since we kinda paused our adventure in the middle off a fforest to do this. We worked out logistics, ffood supply, defenses, everything we could think of...

Where you getting this idea from? I thought it was part of the skill system, so I'd like to hear why you think its not. Please and thank you.

    D&D 5E (2024) Tweaking Bastion levels for a 3-12 campaign

So. After BG3 made solid arguments for running a game til level 12, I've been working on adapting my next game for the same level stretch. One thing is that, if we use Bastions, I don't see any reason to not squish level requirements. I'm thinking of going with 3, 6, 9, 12 instead of 5, 9...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8 Survey

Fundamentally, the real point of gold (or any currency really) in any RPG (be it TT or Vidya) is to be an xp track for your equipment. You can actually see this a bit with armor in the early levels. Of course, that also ends up creating expectations on when and where +x bonuses come in, etc...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8 Survey

You know, that's exactly how I feel about the living expenses in D&D. There's absolutely no mechanical reason for you to pick anything and spend your gold on any luxuries. But its printed that you have to spend the gold you earn to live luxuriously. Spending gold on things that have no merit...

Depends on the build- it can be. Nothing stops the entire party from going one Barracks each.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8 Survey

One thing I think you're missing - Workshop seems to grant Heroic Inspiration. A bit redundant if your party has Musician feat or a human, but if you do need it... Kinda like how Arcane Study is decent if you've a mage without identify but bad if you do.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8 Survey

You're kinda twisting what I'm trying to say, but whatever. Its not important. Vibes are what's important, yeah? If its not something you're vibing with, then yeah, you should complain about it on the survey. And I kind of agree, but for different reasons than you. Personally, I look at...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8 Survey

It can't quite ignore enemies when they're invisble or you're blind, because you have to know where to swing to attack. High AC / disadvantage isn't a good trait either, because cantrips that target saves instead exist - those ignore AC /disadvanage too. I've never seen a DM that lets players...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8 Survey

They're different things in reality, but they all deal poison damage. The DMG treats venoms and poisons interchangably. Well, sometimes diseases do necrotic damage instead, like in the Harm spell, but other times? Gas Spore's Death Throws, for instance, is a disease, deals poison damage and...
