I have two concerns about 4th edition. Help me out.

Well, I found that there was more variety and plot in KotS than in Sunless Citadel. Also, I found the format in KotS to be almost identical to later 3.5e modules. As such, I am not sure KotS is a sign of any change from 3.5e's focus except perhaps to confirm it.

D&D 4E Heavy Concrete Data on 4e's Skill Challenge System (long, lots of tables)

I have come across three instances so far: The common examples we have encountered so far are (noted earlier in this thread): 1. Skill Challenges in Combat Encounters. Often PCs are pressed by Combat and are unable to engage in Aiding or even Skill Challenges. 2. Time Pressure. I have seen...

What is fun when it comes to an RPG?

As someone who likes 4e, I agree with you list as being things that are fun. This is where I find it a bit weird. D&D has always been a game where there are tactical considerations and PCs do amazing stuff. I agree that 3e made the biggest jump in showing this as the game's focus most clearly...

    4E "Multi-classing": Someone please explain

It is true that in 4e you maintain your base class at all times. However, this is only a small part of the story. Your class is mostly defined by the Powers and Feats you choose. The 4e multiclass system is focussed on allowing PCs to choose Powers and Feats from other classes. It seems a little...

    Critical hits in 4e

In 3e, it annoyed me that after rolling a natural 20 you could still be denied a good result by either failing to confirm or rolling bad damage. I much prefer the certainty that comes with 4e, and how you also now roll roll dice on top of max damage :)

    D&D 4E 4e PHB Chapter by Chapter

Nothing says "quality internet review" than a couple of deriding homosexual references :) BTW what is so gay about "primordial"?

D&D 4E Heavy Concrete Data on 4e's Skill Challenge System (long, lots of tables)

I find it strange that you are using some rules as precedent to show that other rules are in error. Is it possible that, in the early stages of 4e, that the web enhancment is incorrect?

D&D 4E Heavy Concrete Data on 4e's Skill Challenge System (long, lots of tables)

Does that include an Easy Skill Challenge? Because if DCs set at 15, each PC has roughly a 65% of success in a trained skill, not even taking into account Aid. You really don't think the party will succeed once?

    D&D compendium

The SRD was available for almost all of 3e and it did nothing but increase sales. In 4e, you will pay a fee to access the rules online. The market for real books with layout, art and formatting is very high. So don't assume your idiocy is unique to you ;)

D&D 4E Heavy Concrete Data on 4e's Skill Challenge System (long, lots of tables)

I agree the maths isn't hard. However, the problem is that most RPG system will produce a string of results based on the amazing amount of variables they contain. 99% of play tends to happen in the a middle band of 50% of those result. The 25% either side can be very difficult to control through...

D&D 4E Heavy Concrete Data on 4e's Skill Challenge System (long, lots of tables)

I think that Table 2 shows that if you use the +5 DC in the footnote and assume that each PC will have bad assistance from the other PCs (PWRBA) then the problem seems to be substantially reduced leaving success in the region of 80% to 100%. If only three PCs assist you go to 50 to 100%.

D&D 4E Heavy Concrete Data on 4e's Skill Challenge System (long, lots of tables)

You sir, are a legend. :) Any chance of a +2 chart? ;) Actually I think PWR(2) and PWR(3), particularly the later show some pretty decent ranges. It also shows just how hard this thing is to analyse given there are so many variables to take into account.

D&D 4E Heavy Concrete Data on 4e's Skill Challenge System (long, lots of tables)

Though I assume the OP's math is solid, he has not provided a comprehensive analysis. I think his assumption of +4 Attribute for all Skill rolls made and that Aid Another will always be maxed out are extremes. Also, we haven't seen what an Easy or Hard Skill base would look like, even though...

D&D 4E Heavy Concrete Data on 4e's Skill Challenge System (long, lots of tables)

Good point. So the range is 60% at 1st level (80% with Aid Another) increasing to 100% at Epic level assuming Attributes are at +4. That doesn't seem that far out compared to success in combat encounters. Is there any chance of a chart if the Attributes were +2. When I looked through the...

D&D 4E Heavy Concrete Data on 4e's Skill Challenge System (long, lots of tables)

I have come across a number of situations where the max Aid Another is not used. The common examples we have encountered so far are: 1. Skill Challenges in Combat Encounters. Often PCs are pressed by Combat and are unable to engage in Aiding or even Skill Challenges. 2. Time Pressure. I have...

Dungeon - Heathen - expected date?

To be fair, the first Dragon and Dungeon articles were up close to the release date as promised. I was just wondering if any more detail had been given as to the expected release over this month.

Dungeon - Heathen - expected date?

Does anyone know when the Heathen adventure in the latest Dungeon will be available? I am guessing this month, but are the releases regular - weekly or fortnightly?

So, who's looking forward to 4E Forgotten Realms?

I am looking forward to it quite a bit. The way 4e writing style was friendly, open and focussed on the fun, added to the more accessible release structure for FR has made it (for the first time) a definite buy.

4e for couples, OMG your GF rolled a char ?!

Storywise, no problems. I can see it being a good one player story starting with the search for the mentor and then being dragged into the greater menace. In terms of the mechanics, you will need to pair down the encounters. If you run an NPC with the PC I would look at a Leader first to assist...
