True 20 - Is it really Simpler?

Conversions are relatively simple and there are detailed guidelines in both the main book and bestiary. I did a lot on the fly whilst we were playing them if that helps. However, this is assuming that you use True 20 mechanics and don't try and convert absolutely everything. For example...

Question about use of open gaming content

Ranger REG has it right. I also note that as if there is any doubt then it is safer (and the common practice) to designate it OGL. That is why most publisher designate most mechanical content as OGL. So even considerably altered mechanics that are plugged into the mechanics are OGL, such as...

Question about use of open gaming content

Vigiliance has it right. OGL works by allowing people to use the SRD to make new mechanics. As a condition of that licence, any mechanics so created are likewise open for use provided the OGL is followed. This does cover any mechanics so created, not just those that are in the SRD. It is not a...

True 20 - Is it really Simpler?

There is not a death spiral in True 20. Most penalties are to Toughness only. If you receive a Wounded condition it does impose a -2 but these is relatively minor (a 10% penalty) and certainly not a "death spiral". Add in that Conviction can be used for automatic recovery checks and Toughness...

    Wound / vitality system pros

True 20 is almost 100% created under the Open Game Licence. So you can use the mechanics provided you meet the requirements of the Open Game Licence. The only non-OGL things are the name True 20 and its trade dress IIRC. If you want to get a copy of True 20 though, you will need to buy the...

    Wound / vitality system pros

True 20 is Open Gaming Content. However, if you actually asking can you download it for free then you won't be able to (like most OGC). You can buy the True 20 book in print at your LGS and there is a quickstart at www.true20.com.

    Wound / vitality system pros

It sounds like Nexus has a well thought AC/DR split :) The two versions of SW have quite different takes on the matter. SW OCR was bad IMO with armour only adding to defence and you had to choose between the higher of Classl based Defence and Armour based Defence. This created the weird...

    Wound / vitality system pros

I think you are missing my point. I understand how AC and DR work. My issue is that the concepts become muddled mechanically. I will try and explain. I have had difficulty in the past explaining to players why some armour gets a AC bonus and some gets a DR. This is highlighted in SW RCR where...

    Wound / vitality system pros

I wouldn't find the application of the rules confusing :) It can be difficult to understand what the split means and where armour should provide a bonus to AC and where it should provide a DR. FWIW I am not saying that you are wrong. As I noted, there are a number of solutions to this...

    Wound / vitality system pros

That is true, though the UA system didn't quite capture the Toughness Save system from M&M properly. The Toughness system works best with a Conviction Point mechanic and also needs to be carefully balanced in regard to damage.

    Wound / vitality system pros

Good point. Personally, I find the split confusing (much as you would find WP/VP confusing). However, my main issue would be that this seems to be a compromise and that it sort of muddles mechanics. I like True 20 approach where Attack is directly opposed by Defence (both determines by skill)...

    Wound / vitality system pros

This is one of the most common rules mods in d20 and there are a lot of opinions about how to make it work. I think you need to begin by deciding some base questions: 1. How close to D&D HP system do you want to be? 2. Do you want Armour to be a DR or AC bonus? 3. How much class based defence...

    New Star Wars RPG!

I agree. I think the real issue lies in how VP are defined i.e. along the lines of Hit Points. I think VP are a great resource that cover much more than this limited definition. Essentially, they act as a form of drama points by managing the "screen time" of the PCs i.e. Jedi get to use only...

    Anyone picked up True Sorcery?

I note that it is True Sorcery and True 20 Bestiary. True Sorcery is not a strictly True 20 product. It provides an alternate magic system (from Black Company) for use with True 20, Iron Heroes and Thieves World. A lot of people seemed to have it confused despite it lacking the True 20 trade...

    DINO-PIRATES: True20 In Action

For clarity, the current True 20 magic system in based on the Psychic's Handbook. True Sorcery includes a new magic system for use in True 20 as well as Iron Heroes and Thieves World. It is essentially an expanded version of what is found in Black Company Setting NOT Psychic's Handbook.

Lone Wolf RPG - Any interest?

Actually, I am going to bow out of this one so if it is OK with EK you can have my spot. I am soon off on holiday over Xmas and it would be a difficult start for me. Thanks all for the time though.

    True 20 / Blue Rose

Yes, roughly. Some specific applications require either additional powers or feats, such as using fire shaping to attack someone requires the elemental strikepoweer and weather shaping is an additional power that requires you have wind and water shaping powers. Yes. Attack and Defence are now...

Lone Wolf RPG - Any interest?

Dreams and visions also work well for the Dessi. Vague visions of impending doom provide strong and everlasting motivation for PCs until such time as the PC has bonded with the other PCs and has other motivations. Considering the future to come, the bond between the Dessi and Kai will need to be...

Lone Wolf RPG - Any interest?

Awesome. Sounds like we may have a few Errol Flynn style swashbuckling fights amongst the PCs ;)
