I have a strong opinion on this. I think you should skip the red box and buy the DM Kit, the Monster Vault, and "The Dungeon" set of Dungeon Tiles. This will be enough for you to do more than get your feet wet. You can essentially play through "two" modules of content with the material...

Not sure how much it helps, but all the DM Kit maps (26 of them) are available in a zip archive on WotC's site. I always seem to forget that they make many of the maps available for download for DDInsiders.

I very much wanted to report flawless use of the Character Builder. Unfortunately, it crashed while selecting my character race .... that was quick. "Fortunately" upon restart it recovered the in-progress character file, but 17 seconds of use and then a crash is not promising. I hope they have...

Has anyone come across any way to actually get "Reavers of harkenwold" outside of the Kit? I have done a few ebay searches with no success. I'd really liek the adventure(s) and maps, as the OP said.

I think for 13 bucks (amazon for example) calling a product like the red box "rubbish" is really harsh.

To me the MM auto hit really shines as a ranged basic attack when the warlord grants the action to the Wizard. In certain circumstances, two 'auto hits' even with relatively low damage can be very effective in a round.

I agree. If I want a hill dwarf, I make a dwarf, and fluff and crunch him in to a hill dwarf. If I could synthesize my one "minor beef" with 4E, (and probably every game system from the last 15 years), it is that they create additional product to address what could easily be left to the players...

Yep, we agree, those tokens put me over the top for sure. I am looking at the Compendium as well, and soon I will no longer even be able to pretend I am an Essentials-ist.
