    Most ludicrous gaming rumors?

A friend of mine had "heard" that gamers were abandoning D&D3e in droves and flocking back to AD&D1 instead. The fact that this particular friend doesn't much like 3e and prefers AD&D was not, I'm sure, a contributing factor in him believing this rumour .... ;)

GM's: what was your first module?

Really? OK, I didn't know that. The module text made no mention of their prior appearances, and I haven't seen those earlier issues. My apologies.

GM's: what was your first module?

What exactly are you nitpicking? I didn't say that all the creatures in the module appeared in Fiend Folio. The creatures you cite didn't, but the carbuncle and necrophidius, at least, did. (I think there may have been one or two others, as well.)

    Gamer Significant Others

    I don't go to conventions any more .... :\

    Baiting your players

I agree with the other comments that you overstepped the mark here, but that certainly doesn't entitle the players to get the loot they lost. You didn't force them to do the wrong thing. I generally leave players to work out their own options, but sometimes they just become hopelessly muddled...

GM's: what was your first module?

It was a module in a very early issue of White Dwarf magazine: The Halls of Tizun Thane. Quite a cool little adventure, I thought (and the first appearance of several critters that later turned up in Fiend Folio).

    Uncanny Dodge and Run

So we're agreed that it's just poorly written for no good reason, right? That's me. :\ Er, no ... not by the rules of English grammar as I understand them (and I like to think that I understand them pretty well). If the intent is that the ability allows you to keep your DEX bonus for AC...

    Uncanny Dodge and Run

Sorry, but that doesn't match with the text's use of the word "even". If it had meant only those two cases, it would have simply stated those two cases. The use of "even" indicates that those two cases are only extreme examples of when the bonus applies when it ordinarily wouldn't...

    Uncanny Dodge and Run

I searched the PHB (3.5) and the FAQ but couldn't see a clear answer: Uncanny Dodge lets you keep your DEX bonus if you would otherwise be flat-footed ... in some cases. Does the rule actually mean all cases (other than the listed exception of being physically restrained)? I.E., when you run...

    Random Encounters

It's published by Necromancer Games. http://www.necromancergames.com/previews/moaet.html I find it useful to generate ideas for encounters, rather than generating the encounters themselves, if you see what I mean.

    "Okay, I'll just lie here..."

It's a very easy thing to do, especially in a game like Champions, where a group of NPCs might have many diverse options available to them. A bunch of mooks will all do the same thing, more or less, and are easy to "program", but more complex characters take more mental effort, especially if...

    Heroic Dark Fantasy Campaign

Well, in that case I'd recommend that you not say things like "the PCs are heroes striving against evil and corruption all around them". I couldn't disagree more. The harder the struggle, the more heroic the PCs have to be. Having grateful locals shower accolades on the PCs doesn't make the...

    Random Encounters

I often use Random Encounters to flesh out the story. Frequently a purely random encounter is seized upon by my players as further evidence of whatever it is that they're investigating (or fleeing from, or whatever); I can then fold that into the storyline if it makes sense to me and the whole...

    Heroic Dark Fantasy Campaign

Sounds a lot like the Midnight setting to me. Here's an example of how Midnight would treat the above: the mayor (and citizens) may fear and hate the PCs because their open use of weapons (illegal) and magic (extremely illegal) in defeating the monsters will likely bring the unwelcome...

    E.N. Critters Volume 6 - Berk's Wasteland

Maybe I'm missing something, but why is "Tumble" being added to a skill list for the "scorpienne" if it hasn't any ranks in the skill?

"....so we tossed the jerk out...."

That's not "rules lawyer" behaviour, with the possible exception of the game-halting-while-advising-the-DM bit. The rest of it is simply appalling manners and lack of consideration (and the end bit about the court is called "ignorance"). Please don't badmouth innocent rules lawyers by tarring...

"....so we tossed the jerk out...."

I don't know about "eye-scalding", but after a couple of pages it turned into "firewall-blocking" here at work. I was given a count of the various words being cited as causing the page to be blocked. I've seen less explicit porn pages!

Dragon 337: Will the real Zuggtmoy please stand up?

It's a mistake. See the (unofficial) "Booklets of Triel" errata/3.5 upgrade document. Check out the BoVD thread on the WOTC message boards. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=190192

    DM-only backstory in modules

I took nothing out of context; that's exactly the point which I replied to. I'm afraid you're still wrong, for exactly the same reasons that I stated earlier. Good, relevant backstory cannot make a module bad. (Note especially "relevant".) The DM, of course, can always make any changes that...

    Possible ebay piracy?

No. As I understand it (and I don't claim any great knowledge in this area) he's allowed to make a copy for backup purposes for his own personal use. It's illegal to sell or otherwise distribute any copies that he's made, no matter what happens to the original.
