Oh, yeah. Unless you're a millionaire, you should buy your kobolds, orcs, and goblins etc from a normal mini company. This is best for PCs that don't match a stereotype.

Why not have STR dictate the range of most ranged weapons? Crossbows would be the probable exception - so make loading time dictated by STR.

Dammit, you're right. I must have decided that since they're so often the enemy, that they shouldn't have colours that might be shared by a real ethnic group.

Hmm. Maybe. I can't see how it will change things mechanically going forward. Any new races might have a note directing to the optional rules? Since they are optional, I can't see racial characteristics not including bonus to abilities in main products. Bad guys may not default to orcs or goblins.
