    Star Trek: Section 31

Really? I can't believe they would let anyone associated with writing, directing or even producing THAT movie anywhere near Trek ever again! I found the entire movie absurd. But then in it has an 84% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes so what do I know!

    Star Trek: Section 31

Section 31 can work as villains, but even that's tricky. Certainly not what's going on in this movie.

    Star Trek: Section 31

The whole obsession of some of the writers and showrunners with showing/exploring "the dark underbelly" of the federation is amazing to me. You'd think there would be someone along the chain who explains how against the very idea of Star Trek this is and maybe find a another focus, but nope...

    Star Trek: Section 31

Yeah, the whole premise turns the Utopia into a facade - and that's both terrible and depressing. Alex Kurtzman is the driving force behind this. He seems to really love Section 31, and from all indication, he seems to just not get how antithetical it is to Trek.

    Star Trek: Section 31

Now THERE'S a series worth watching. Started slow, but boy did it get going. And, unlike here, the shocking twist really was shocking (and about a character you really started to care about).

    Star Trek: Section 31

Does the fact that she looks REALLY SAD about some of the bad stuff she's done count? No there's nothing really done to redeem her character, IMO. Yeah, I mean she's literally from the Mirror Universe and from what we see has done stuff that makes even THOSE people cringe. IMO it's a truly...

    Star Trek: Section 31

There are no moral quagmires in the movie and none of the characters are heroes (well maybe Rachel Garrett, but only because of what we know about her outside this movie). But yeah, likely not your cup of tea.

    Star Trek: Section 31

Movie is out on Paramount+ today. Haven't seen a new thread (old one is about the trailer) so here's one. I assume there will be spoilers, but I won't start with too much. Will preface this by saying I have never been a big Section 31 fan, and even with Michelle Yeoh (Who I AM a fan of) this...

Planescape Enhancing Turn of Fortune's Wheel

Chalk this one up to character generation actively stating that PCs start with an uncommon magic item of their choice, and I didn't kibosh it. Note for next time!

Planescape Enhancing Turn of Fortune's Wheel

Yes, because the module gives a supposedly difficult out - DC 18 Persuasion or intimidation check. The Paladin and cleric both had good persuasion and with one aiding the other (I forget who actually spoke) they passed it. The Module actually says the gladiators turn on their employers, which...

Planescape Enhancing Turn of Fortune's Wheel

And again, the complaint is specific. The nature of this module should mean tougher in general - not just 1 or 2 tough encounters throughout.

Planescape Enhancing Turn of Fortune's Wheel

The Gladiators were not a huge problem - the group encountered them first and took care of them. That's when the noise was made and the Yugoloth's attacked. Tough fight but as I said, they made it out with 1 "fatality." (In quotes because of the nature of the module). And that's about as tough...

Planescape Enhancing Turn of Fortune's Wheel

The gate towns had little danger except when I started ramping up the difficulty. The walking castle was one of the few VERY dangerous encounters because there were a decent number of foes. This was actually 1 of the deaths because the group got careless, made WAY too much noise and got swarmed...

Planescape Enhancing Turn of Fortune's Wheel

The AL modules have up to a 5 level spread, so very necessary there!

Planescape Enhancing Turn of Fortune's Wheel

Yeah, I ran Phandelver early and it was brutal! The first couple encounters, especially, are deceptively deadly! None of the other published adventures I've run so far have come close (Haven't run ToA - looking through that has some deadly potential). I really thought, again considering the...

Planescape Enhancing Turn of Fortune's Wheel

Bit of thread necromancy but thought I'd start here before doing a new thread. IMO, the adventure is not NEARLY deadly enough considering the premise! I'm running this for a group of relative newbies who have no idea what optimization even is - and they just waltzed through the initial...

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

There's running a business and then there's running a fantasy business, in a game. The first is obviously hard work (though it helps A LOT if you actually like it). The second can absolutely be done for fun, laughs and a great D&D experience. One of the best campaigns I ever ran had all the PCs...

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

I'm talking about 5e not just 5e 2024 (Hasbro has owned WoTC a long time). The poster I was responding to made the claim that Hasbro has done a terrible job minding D&D. I'm not talking about quality or interested in an edition war, I'm talking about sales. And it's not close, 5e has simply...

D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: Is The Sandbox Campaign Dead?

Yes, they're so terrible that D&D is doing better than it has EVER done. But I'm sure that's just a big coincidence. The new DMG is clearly focused on a specific play style. It's a choice, and I'm glad they made one. Otherwise the DMG risks being an unfocused mess and, IMO, that's worse...

D&D General When We Were Wizards: Review of the Completed Podcast!

Late to the game but, I FINALLY made it through the whole podcast! I pretty much new all of the highlights and beats - but the details and the presentation were great! I knew Lorain Williams wasn't the villain she has often been presented as, but as the OP stated, after listening to the whole...
