Daggerheart Review: The Duality of Robust Combat Mechanics and Freeform Narrative

Not too keen on the cards (not a fan of gimmicky extras like cards or unique dice) but the hope and fear mechanic sounds interesting. I might have a read of the srd at some point to see how exactly they work together.

D&D General How Long Did You Play Only D&D Before Trying Another Game

My friends and I played advanced fighting fantasy before I found out about DnD via the rules cyclopedia. I've mostly stuck with some form of DnD since then. I wanted to give savage worlds a try but scheduling can be a pain at times. Have played a little of pirate borg which I think of as DnD...

    Daggerheart has been Officially Released

If it's out then it makes sense that crit roll are starting a campaign showcasing the system. It should drive up interest. I don't really know anything about it, but I have a friend who was interested, I'll have to see if he's gonna get it.

D&D 5E (2014) Wonder why there aren't any Elemental Domains (Earth, Air, Fire, Water)?

Priests in Conan seem less like clerics and more like a combination of wizard, warlock, and artificer. Some seem to gain power/knowledge from demonic entities like Set others don't seem to have any patron teaching them sorcery while others have knowledge of mechanical knowhow that grants them...

D&D 5E (2014) Wonder why there aren't any Elemental Domains (Earth, Air, Fire, Water)?

I guess another thing I tend to lean towards now is that a priest isn't a priest of a specific deity. You're an intermediary of the Olympians or the Egyptian gods. While there were priests assigned to temples of specific gods, that seemed more of a temporal position rather than spiritual, you...

D&D 5E (2014) Wonder why there aren't any Elemental Domains (Earth, Air, Fire, Water)?

I also much prefer my gods being able to take away power, a gradual reduction in power to show disfavour and allow the priest to return to the "right" path. However, I also think it can work well to have divine magic be learnt and to have evil priests belong to the main priesthood. Self-serving...

How do you handle gems as a GM?

I'm pretty sure that I only mention gem type if it is something that can be used for a spell. So I might say that you find 3 gems worth 50gp and a diamond worth 500gp. If I don't mention anything and someone says "I need ruby dust, are any of them rubies" then I might say yes, 2 of the 3 50gp...

OSR City State of the Invincible Overlord, what even is it?

I didn't even realise it was a thing until recently. I think Matt Colville may have stolen the title of invincible overlord for his big bad guy in a campaign he was running but I don't think it related back to the book. I wasn't quite born yet before it released. I've always had this idea that...

OSR City State of the Invincible Overlord, what even is it?

I've never heard of this until the recent announcement (I know very little about Judge's Guild) and since this is going to be re-released, I'm curious what people who have used it, read through it, etc., liked about it (or didn't). What were your impressions of it when you first came across it...

Do Shorter Lists Make Players/GMs More Creative?

Maybe you just aren't seeing them, there are a few subreddits that show homebrew content, many of which are spells, so people are still being creative and adding to spell lists, etc. However, that may not necessarily be in-game creation (like having a wizard research a new spell) and I think in...

D&D 5E (2024) Fixing ranger with higher level mark spells.

Not sure if it's in my notes (I'd actually have to hunt for them), but anything that eats into the sorcerer's gimmick would probably be at a minimum level where the sorcerer is still far more efficient. With level limits like you posted, it would be even less efficient, but still maybe a good...

D&D 5E (2024) Fixing ranger with higher level mark spells.

I like this idea, I was thinking of creating a set of metamagic spells (or, I guess, updating spells from 2e) that worked the same way. I think I'd stopped running games by the time I'd put them together. I'm not sure how useful it would be since it's only when the ranger hits the target that...

D&D General Looking for Skype alternatives

Discord might actually be the best one in that I don't think there is any fee for meetings longer than an hour. I do recall having issues with it taking up a lot of resources but it might be better now.

    D&D 3.x Auril stats

If you do use Skadi's stats, Id suggest giving her an ability similar to fire mastery but for cold allowing her to use any cold spell at will.

D&D General How would you feel if Official Adventures only covered 3 levels?

I'd be happy with adventures that don't even level you up, just a small adventure that can be a side quest or a one-shot where you get a bit of xp and maybe an interesting item or two. That was the benefit of the old dungeon magazine. I'd be fine with it being a PDF of a set of curated...

Unearthed Arcana UA Phantom Rogue still seems BORING and feels OUTDATED in 5e2024. It's basically a vanilla Rogue before 9.

Yeah, bard is another I have a similar issue with, but in the bard's case it's due to having only 3 subclass levels. Level 10 should have been for the subclass to get that extra bit of flavour.
