    D&D 5E (2024) Would 4 spell lists work in D&D (maybe 6e)?

Dragon Warriors from the 80s had a nice thematic setup for Elementalists which could be adapted to be schools of magic:

Change a letter, ruin a spell - Xanathar edition!

Tidal Rave: all merfolk, tritons, and Sahuagin within range find their weapons changed into glowsticks. As they get down and boogie, there is a 5% chance per raver that their frenzied big-fish-little-fish-cardboard-box moves will cause a devastating tsunami. Thundercrap: target suffers as if...

Change a letter, ruin a spell - Xanathar edition!

I couldn’t find my original CALRAS thread to cast Threadromancy on, so here’s a new one. Simple format - change one letter, ruin a spell. But only from Xanathar’s, this time. I’ll start: Druid Grope: a more intimate Hold Person. Druid Spell so usually used on trees. Earth Trevor: summons a...

How do you make a Barbarian interesting? :)

I played a gnome Barbarian urchin - his rage was the simmering anger at being abandoned in a strange city bubbling up. He was basically Oliver Twist Your Head Off.

Oh man just get a map of Dorset and you’re good to go. Grimstone Toller Porcorum Melbury Bubb Beer Hackett Plush Cricket Malerbie ...the list goes on

D&D 5E (2014) What armor can druids wear? Is there a way to get a decent AC?

Nothing to say that your scimitar is metal. It could be a wooden weapon comprised of shark/bear/killer rabbit/whatever teeth along its edge. Or obsidian. Or a razor sharp leaf from an obscure and secret tree. Or stone. Or, for the colourful out there, a weapon made from the sharpened flakes of a...

D&D 5E (2014) Awarding One Magic Weapon only to each player in a campaign

I love the tables for unique qualities. One PC got a wand that feels sinister and makes him uncomfortable; whoever he uses it to cast a charged spell, a small physical effect occurs. So far four fingernails have turned black. He is freaking terrified of it! But he will not give it up. Love it...

    Power is Relative

Luckily my table(s) are all filled with actors. So while they will try to be as optimal as possible for the wargaming side of things, they’re also invested in RP, so more likely to get sucked into the backstory development and character interactions - one player decided his gnome ranger was...

How Involved Should The DM Be As A Warlock's Patron?

I have, after decade of coaxing, unlocked the special Get Girlfriend to Play D&D feat. Her character is a Tiefling Warlock (Fey Tome). She likes the idea of the Gentleman with the Thistledown Hair from Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, so I’ve gone with that idea. Going to make it so that...

    MagicWeapons

Make them rare enough and have enough backstory and you gain double the adventures, emulating many great fantasy stories. Evil Giant Bjorn Bigstacks is terrorising the land. Legend has it that there is a magic weapon that he fears, an axe created from the tears of Bjorn’s father when he was...

    awkward situation

Gotta say, the first scenario reminded me instantly of The Warriors. One gang of orcs could have been pursued by the others - or the party are the Warriors. Maybe adapt for duergar. While they rested up, the duergar could devolve into factions having had a moot to elect a leader (which failed)...

    Fighting Fantasy

So, I’m having another nostalgia rush following the news of Fighting Fantasy reissuing a bunch of their classic Gamebooks from the Eighties, along with a brand new book written by Charlie Higson of The Fast Show fame. I still have the original first three - Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Citadel...

That was a great read - thanks for posting.

Mechanics of Revived Settings; your thoughts?

Mystara would be great but the sheer volume of Gazetteer info means they would be unlikely to launch it - unless, they bring out rules for racial classes to evoke the Halfling Fighter/Thief, Dwarf Fighter, and Elf Fighter/Magic-User.

Specularum definitely. Got to big up Mystara as it’s where I first played.

    D&D Beyond Krakens

Will they be doing a 5e version of the Saltmarsh modules, do you think? Expanded into bigger monsters? That would be ace!

Anyone else tired of the miserly begrudging Rogue design of 5E?

Late to the party but you lost me at ‘correct play’. No such thing.
