Pathfinder 1E Are there compelling reasons to upgrade to PF1 from 3.0?

Character creation in 2E requires more choices and more calculation than in PF 1. First you pick an ancestry, and get a heritage. Apply ability boosts. Background, apply ability boosts. Class, apply ability boost. Here's three different funnels of feats you need to understand by level 2. Also...

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

Well, wizard does ultimately come from the worse wise, and implies excessive or bad knowledge. Warlock probably comes from oath-breaker or deceiver, so implies profanity, corruption, and artfulness. Sorcerer is kind of odd; it comes from a word for fortune-telling.

Pathfinder 1E Are there compelling reasons to upgrade to PF1 from 3.0?

It's more consistent, with more general cases and fewer specific ones. But it still has a lot of moving parts and a fair number of complex procedures.

D&D General The abandoned core monsters of D&D

A Lawful Good avenging outsider versus a titan-spawned elemental that may be entirely hostile to lesser beings is an entirely different creature. They just recycled the name because they decided to do something else with celestials.

The 4e version of archons were definitely unique to it.

Pathfinder 1E Are there compelling reasons to upgrade to PF1 from 3.0?

I'd say PF2 is maybe 10% less complex. Actually, character creation is often more complex in PF2 at first level, but levels off more quickly. I'm a Remastered convert after skipping the initial 2e release; the improvements are minor but there is considerable thematic and quality-of-life...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Monster Core

D&D ghouls are fairly intelligent, but are almost never depicted that way, other than the occasional ghoul cleric. I'm glad ghouls get more of a role than just an undead to terrify low level PCs with. It looks like paralysis is out, grabbing and biting is in. Note that ghouls are based on the...

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

Originally, 3e only hinted that sorcery came from a bloodline, something 5e returned to. The basic concept is that a sorcerer has a "spark" of magic, whether that's a draconic blessing, fey blood, or exposure to wild magic. A wizard has insight. They also have a kind of "spark" but it's more...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Monster Core

It's actually pretty easy to find minis of dragons, giants, and fish people. Here's an, I don't know, adamantine dragon. This could be a conspirator dragon. Also, Paizo has done a lot with Wizkids in the past, I would assume everything in the Monster Core is getting a mini at some point.

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder Monster Core

I don't see the Golarion-specific elements as all that limiting. In fact, it gives you an easy reference to decide what equivalent would exist in your world. Like, if in Golarion, something is sacred to Pharasma, in your world, it might be assigned to Hades, Persephone, Hekate, or Anubis.

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

Sorcerers gain levels, so it's not purely some innate gift. We all have innate muscles, but we're not all barbarians.

Kickstarter Promotion Services: Are These Legit?

There are legitimate ones. The ones who send you messages when you launch a new Kickstarter are fly-by-night operations and scammers.

3.5 AND 5.1 SRD- Can you use both in a published RPG game?

The CC license does not allow you to distribute things under a more restrictive license, and it doesn't like you to segment a work. Also, CC and the OGL require different methods to protect things like your trade dress. My suggestion is always to avoid shenanigans, unless you are backed into a...

    Mutants and Masterminds 3e

If you have one special overpowered attack, what you do is shift it slightly toward damage while making it less accurate (unless it's an area of effect). You tack on some crazy modifiers, and pay for them with some flaws. For instance, you could make your Conflagration power both Distracting and...

How Visible To players Should The Rules Be?

A lot of player choices are somewhat diagetic, though. In Exalted, you learn new Charms. In Vampire, you improve quantifiable Disciplines. In D&D, the wizard learns fireball. PCs actually do know their capabilities in some important respects.

How Crunchy is Too Crunchy, For You Personally

I have no real limit on how mechanically involved a game may be. My concern on "crunch" is mainly just speed of play.

How Visible To players Should The Rules Be?

Even if you did hand players the stat blocks for the monsters, the use of a d20 for resolution means they will have insufficient information to judge the outcome of any given battle. That's a lot of possibilities. The main reason you don't just hand over stat blocks to the players is to hide...
