D&D General Multiclassing Shouldn't be Treated as the Default

Sorc1 has always gotten you Con save proficiency. Then you just go on with your actual main caster class. 2024 Cleric picks between cantrip+knowledge checks or heavy armor+martial weapons at lv1. 2024 Warlocks get to pick an invocation at lv1, and Blade Pact is an invocation.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Especially when there's goliaths in the same book, who basically take over the big muscle guy role. You'd think that would force them to think about orcs' role as the other big guy, but they just softened them to be gentle little farmers or something. (orcs can dash proficiency times per day...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

That does bring up the question, what pop culture orcs have there recently been? All I remember seeing is the standard Warcraft and Warhammer orcs, and for the general public, LotR orcs. I do wonder though, if we ever get firbolgs, if they are going to follow Critical Role fan art's direction...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

They're natural sprinters? Mechanically, 2024 orcs would need one more feature to be worth a look. Right now, they're just giving you 'avoid dropping to 0hp once', which is a) planning to fail in the first place b) everything has multiattacks so you're getting dropped before your turn anyway...

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Seeing how the Great Weapon style is terrible, I can see that - picking the adaptability over... what else is there, boring old Defense style? I do really like that longbow/heavycrossbow finally get some respect, now that they are Heavy weapons.

How else? That said, Fighter extra extra extra attacks would benefit more from going for a bigger main weapon.

    D&D 5E (2024) Backgrounds

It's okay if it doesn't work now, they'll patch it later? I see. Speaking of which, many of the new features don't work on Beyond. Actually, a lot of stuff doesn't work on Beyond... Is that also just a boohoo come back in another year situation, or is some critique of WotC possible?

    D&D 5E (2024) Backgrounds

And until DMG, all we'll have is the restrictive ruling. Which they deliberately chose over the 2014 wording.

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

I do like that Rogues now have the option of getting up to 3 attacks, so the gulf between them and the warriors isn't quite as big.

    D&D 5E (2024) Backgrounds

Yes, yes, I created a custom 'choose everything yourself' background on Beyond in a minute and will keep banning Guidance, that's not the point. WotC decided to make the official route the incredibly restrictive one, not to sell you more options, but just... for the lols?

    D&D 5E (2024) Backgrounds

I like the idea of restricted backgrounds, but 16 is way too few to do anything but give the impression that you want all Monks to be Sailors, etc. So I find it strange they went this way with it - it's not like they're coming out with The Big Book Of Backgrounds next month to sell you.

Dragon Age 4 - now The Veilguard

Okay, Veilguard Character Creator looks great! ...except for Rook's pose and whatever is going on with qunari... Barebones with no talk: Talk, very minor spoilers near the start of the game:

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Because none of this is the product of a clear vision or cohesive design principles, of course! For what it's worth, at least weapon-juggling is kind of unique as a core gameplay element. I don't know why you'd pick that to be your thing, but I don't mind it. EDIT: Well... I do mind how it...

The whole juggling mechanic exists to support switching between weapon masteries.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 PHB errata thread

There was a brief moment during the playtest where they thought about standardizing all tools to have the same cost/weight... guess not. That difference between 8 and 9 pounds must be very important.

D&D 5E (2024) New rules for spell scrolls??

Only cantrip and lv1 scrolls are listed in equipment... So we default to 2014 or wait for DMG. It's nonsense.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 5e 2024 Monk Handbook

Yep - getting knocked down isn't the worst to imagine (it was a powerful hit that pushed you down? though if it was able to be reduced to 0, it likely wasn't), but you still get poisoned even if you take no damage from the bite... Nothing in Deflect says it prevents the effects and nothing in...

D&D General Multiclassing Shouldn't be Treated as the Default

I do miss the original DnDNext promise of simple / complex option for every class (or rather, this concept of layers of complexity). So you could have a simple magical princess doing simple magic (likely a blast + effect of your choice) in one corner, while the complex warlord is busy pulling...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 5e 2024 Monk Handbook

But, that said, let me see about a Barbarian1/Monk... Making a standard pointbuy Monk able to dip into Barb: Str 13 Dex 15+2 Con 12 Wis 15+1 (not much of a change, you just lower Con to 12) start off as Barb, to have the maxed d12 hitdie (multiclassing no longer cares about Unarmored Defense...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 5e 2024 Monk Handbook

I think you should sit him down and emphasize that you don't need to multiclass (especially Monk, super-especially if he's someone who'd try to smash Ranger into it). But yes, I personally think MonkX/Rogue1 is the most powerful all-around Monk option, that is also very easy to grasp. I think...
