What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

I don’t think the class unique bits matter for the first part so much, and for the second like I said given the amount of class customization and tactical play as the core expectation of this game player desire to learn and master your class is a baseline requirement of the game. I’d think your...

What gets me playing Draw Steel and not Pathfinder 2e?

If classes have different ways they work, does it matter unless you're playing multiple classes at the same time? Edit: DS seems to be designed to appeal to people who want to do some serious customization and skilled tactical play with their characters, people who are going to want to learn...

Honestly the one thing "saving" the players the most has been the swingyness of the D20. I'm often rolling <8, and very few T1 adversaries can do much there. like I said, if you expect a "solo" to = "boss" and basically be "if the players aren't super on it they might all drop" you're going to...

I don’t think any DH class feels especially “glass cannon”-y!

    Daggerheart live with Todd Kenreck

The amount of people who have watched CR and never actually played D&D or just decided to try it is quite high. I had 5 of those in my late 2023 D&D game, and see them looking for a group constantly on the local LFG discord. If they can get DH registering with those folks (and seem to be)...

Also, add me to the "these combats can be pretty quick actually." On-balance/slightly above Bruiser + Skulk + Ranged x 3 vs my 3 players and we ran through it with some great color + a tag team + still learning abilities and such in ~15 minutes. We actually managed to do a "combat to end the...

The Homebrew Kit is fantastic, and also drills down into adversary design a lot more. You've got some great step-by-step considerations for scaling adversaries down now, how to conceptualize damage vs thresholds and such, etc. Edit: the Age of Umbra adversaries are interesting. Velk is...

Daggerheart Hombrew kit released at GenCon.

This thing is great, it's walking through the design process and mechanics for every element of the game. Really excellent levels of detail here!

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

We had our session 0 there! Only downside is the seating area closes at 930.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

Anyway, back to Quite a few gaming bars around my area! But yeah, the US pub scene isn’t as much a social spot. Oddly enough, Wegmans stores are often a good spot to meet up, they tend to have huge seating areas

    Daggerheart Playtesting New Transformation Mechanic

It’s an interesting way of giving flavor without doing a full ancestry, and keeping emphasis on the core Domain features.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

Yeah like, speaking of marketing, the biggest name in TTRPG media is running a short campaign in it as we speak. They're also doing some big stuff at GenCon apparently? I haven't had the chance to play in a FLGS in ages, none close enough to be usable. I also run a couple hundred hours of...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

Also considering that it's basically "what if everything you liked about 5e and Critical Role but different" vs a completely separate vibe and ruleset like Shadowdark. After the juggernaut that is D&D, I've seen more games forming for Daggerheart in the local discord that spans the entire DC...

D&D General 70% Of Games End At Lvl 7?

The 4 major 5e campaigns I ran all got to ~10-11. At that point we'd resolved the story (Curse of Strahd twice, a home-brew Eberron campaign, and Call of the Netherdeep) we'd set out to explore and I was uninterested in moving further. Level 7 feels more like we hit the end of a constrained...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

What difficulty were you rolling against? Assuming using an ability with a +1 you should be at a 65-70% chance of success before party members aid or you maneuver to get advantage. Most T1 adversaries have a -1 to +1 to hit, leaders and solos being the notable exception.

I think that unless the players are rolling super hot, two solos are going to do some serious hurt (at least at T1). Especially if you pick a pair that synchronizes. My read of how Solos generally up their threat level is by being able to put damage down against multiple targets up to the...

You subtract 2 from your budget with more than one solo. They have abilities and defenses that often scale higher than 2.5 standards IMO. Eg: the demon’s hope drain, plus fear gen, plus relentless, plus a 1d20+6 AOE.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Yup, this is what I’ve been saying and my experience yesterday bore it out! The ones with relentless can be a good thematic “oh naughty word” challenge but not really a full boss. Which is fine! Sometimes you don’t want a near death encounter but do want a solo guardian or stalker or something. I think...

I ran a little extemporaneous one-shot for my Tuesday night group, since one of our players couldn’t make it & we’re hitting the end of our arc/game in our usual FITD thing. Had a great time, due to the limits of short one shot play I wanted to make threats interesting and reskinned the Minor...
