Yea, but you could have to go my route $18 each for all three, with a month buy the PHB at full $30, then with another month and buy all three at the full price. Then hope you don't have to buy a third copy of the DMG or Monster Manual.

No, I don't use one. They get in the way and my can't read my notes if they wanted to. (I use short fragments and notations as memory aids and keep most of it in my head). As for secret rolls, I am always playing with my d20 just to keep them on edge. :D

Yes, but not only requires more work, it limits the posiblities. I don't like running with only 3 player even if that is what I have at the moment. The fewer people the less dynamic the interaction, the more limited the options for both the characters/players and the DM. On the other hand more...
