I'm the first one to say no, which surprises me.

That said, we don't have a large table, so I cover that with my notes and the players all sit relaxed around the room or on the floor. They can't see my notes from there.

All dice rolls are out in the open, which adds to the tension nicely...!

Yes...but not as you'd expect. I use the Kingdoms of Khalamar screen as my primary reference. I don't have it open as a screen to roll dice behind, I just have it at hand as a reference.

When I need a "secret result" say for a search or spot roll, I roll 2 d20s, both of them different colors, and in my head I simply choose a color for the day before the numbers are generated.

For combat, rolling the dice in front of the players just seems to add more tension to the melee.

I use a DM screen when I run my games. Perhaps its a force of habbit. I like the typical DM behind the screen, all the while the players wonder what secrets he keeps from their sight... I guess.

I use a custom screen that I made. I make photocopies of all the charts I need and campaign notes then attach them to the screen using the clear plastic paper sleeves. This makes it easy to switch between games such as Spycraft and other D&D campaigns.

About every other session, on average.

How do you hide the dungeon map without a screen?

I voted never. We sit around the room with no central table, and the DM is usually between his notes and players. So thats how you hide them - keep them on a table couple of feet away from players.

It's surprisingly hard to see the maps, and getting a small glimpse helps about not at all.

Nope dont like them!

And my players know they will die if they look down upon my notes and maps :)

Maps I usually keep covered though. (or in a folder away from the table)

No, I don't use one. They get in the way and my can't read my notes if they wanted to. (I use short fragments and notations as memory aids and keep most of it in my head).

As for secret rolls, I am always playing with my d20 just to keep them on edge. :D

I voted yes, because I do in my home campaigns, but when I DM LG I don't use one. If something happens to a character in LG I want the player to see the rolls himself.

Thaumaturge.

edit: stupid spelling.
