D&D 5E (2014) Rogue's Cunning Action to Hide: In Combat??

Sure, that makes sense. A lot's going to come down to the battlefield. If there's only one thing to hide behind in a featureless room, it stretches credulity for rogue to play peekaboo behind it and somehow be successfully hidden. But a lot of the environments I run fights in are more...

D&D 5E (2014) Rogue's Cunning Action to Hide: In Combat??

Apologies if I've overlooked it, but there's one thing I didn't see anyone bring up in support of the fact that the intention of the rules is for rogues to be able to pop out of hiding to get their sneak attack, then use their bonus section to pop back into hiding If you leaf through your...

D&D 5E (2014) Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Official Campaign Settings

Just as a small aside, leaving at session zero is fine! This is much preferred to the standard approach of 'well, this doesn't sound like the game I wanted, but I guess I'll give it a go anyway' and then leaving at session three.

    D&D 5E (2014) How Would You Implement Skill Deficiencies in D&D 5e?

I think there is a simpler solution to this - gating things behind proficiencies. If you want there to be tasks that can only be performed by trained individuals, and not by trained individuals plus anyone who rolls a 20, just don't allow characters without the relevant proficiency to roll.

OD&D Pop culture references in early editions?

'Open Sesame' is hundreds of years old. I not really sure that counts as pop culture.

D&D General What wastes time at your table?

I'm struggling to understand this bit and wondering if it might be some sort of misaligned expectations going on with your players. If you mean you have a little map with tokens, and a player's not allowed to interact with an object until they've moved their little token next to the picture of...

D&D General What wastes time at your table?

My little convention for these situations is never to open the rulebook. Make up whatever rule sounds reasonable. Getting a rule wrong is always better than pausing the game to look it up (I would make an exception if this ruling determined whether a character died, or something). After the...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Ah well, no-one's perfect. If you pay close attention you may notice I don't always succeed in maintaining my equanimity here. I really trying these days, though, to stick to the principle of ignoring threads where the only comment I want to make is 'Who cares? What's wrong with you people?'

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

When I was a hot-headed and reckless youth, I found it very hard to let things slide. If someone was wrong, I had to let them and everybody else know. Thankfully, I've mellowed, and a lot of the forums on which I spentt those days have gone the way of the dodo. I've learnt to accept that people...

D&D 5E (2014) Does extra-attack work with bows and crossbows?

If we're nitpicking (and it seems that we are), the wording is not the same. Drawing ammunition is part of the attack. Drawing a sword is part of the action you use to Attack. In the latter case you have your attack, and the object interaction as a separate part of that action In the former...

D&D 5E (2014) Does extra-attack work with bows and crossbows?

This looks more like a house rule than a discovery. The rules you quoted state that drawing the arrow is part of the attack, which suggests to me it's not meant to use up any other part of your turn.

In Defence of Chickens - DCC RPG (OOC)

Unfortunately, assuming @FitzTheRuke is still up for it, we are already full for this game. I find that anything more than 5 becomes unwieldy for forum play.

D&D General Why Exploration Is the Worst Pillar

It was an idea from the Angry GM. The idea is that, as time passes in the game world, the GM adds dice into a bowl. If I remember the idea right, when there a six dice, the GM rolls them, and any show up a 1, you get a complication, like a wandering monster. Basically, if players are more...

In Defence of Chickens - DCC RPG (OOC)

Erm, a gongfarmer is not really a farmer. You can learn more about them in this blog about obsolete professions. It's an appropriate job for the character with the spectacularly low Luck score! I thought we would just dump them all in here at first. If we decide to keep going after the first...

In Defence of Chickens - DCC RPG (OOC)

Alright, well that was quick. @thirdkingdom @JustinCase @FitzTheRuke @theCourier @TheAlkaizer makes 5, which is the max I'm willing to have a in PbP game. First up, some rules. Each of you will control a group of 4 0th-level peasants. For those not familiar with DCC, don't worry - 0th-level...

D&D General Why Exploration Is the Worst Pillar

I think it's different people playing for different reasons. My current group of players argue about these things quite a lot. "The evil cult is going to sacrifice the innocent villagers any minute now! We have to move!" "But the DM mentioned there's a thing in the corner! We have to go and...

In Defence of Chickens - DCC RPG (OOC)

Well, that's what I get for taking things for granted! I'm not picky about the venue. If you can convince any likely victims players here, then I'm happy to cancel the request over at rpol and run it here instead.

In Defence of Chickens - DCC RPG (OOC)

I decided to take this over to RPoL.net, to take advantage of the bigger pool of players interested in PbP games. If you're both still up for it, you can roll on over there and request to join. The game is called In Defence of Chickens. If you've not used the site before, it's free and quick...
