    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

"College of Whispers gets to take on someone's persona at 6th level and know their information. Not very combat even if someone has to die to capture their spirit" Totally off topic but these things get me off on tangents sometimes... now gotta go look up and see how many class features start...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

I have it!!! The solution. Changes to fighter class core... Remove the bonus feats at levels 6 and... whatever. Poof, gone, no extra featses for you. Add at those same levels Flexible - a new and unique class feature which reads as follows: At these levels you may chose to raise ability...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

Well, that conclusion is hardly surprising from you, since you had already reached it as a general statement when you asked the question. But as a reminder your question was "What evidence would convince you that a class is extremely underpowered at combat when not taking any combat ASI's or...

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Warlock the Best Class?

Honestly, on the same kind of criteria, I would go for cleric. Typically they gzve more flex-daily spells prep than the warlock knows, more armor and weapon options, and by choosing their domains they gain auto-spells and features too. Wisdom is as strong as cha for z primary stat.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

Actual play experience where all class/sub-class combos not only showed itself to be doing so little as to be more nuisance than adversary, unable to conttibute other desired combat effects and repeated dissatisfaction by those playing it in the other pillars as well. These should over time show...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

Nope, the classes are different. They have different strengths. They do different things. So, picking one thing one class might be able to do in some circumstances does not show anything wrong. Is it your position that in order to be fixed fighter must get like 7th level transport spells once...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

"I guess that happens to everybody but DnD doesn't make skill failiures particularly interesting unless a pit is involved." D&D 5e says a failed ability check can be just no progress or it can be some progress with setback. That pretty much is the default definition, not some variant rule. So...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

So, if the wizard split his spells learned, then they can have both combat option and other options? Huh? But for the fighter "fix" we are to assume only combat options chosen?

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

Backgrounds and races can be chosen to get those as well. Again, the " problem" seems to keep getting redefined to make it more znd more "if I makexall my chouces for combat, why dont I get more out of combat ability?" Now, apply that same logic to the sorcerer or bard. If they make all...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

Recommended by whom? It is a reference in the cr section about how many encounters a group could by seeing depletion of resources or expected to handle or something else at a certain difficulty.

    D&D 5E (2014) Fixing the fighter (I know...)

In my experience balance is created or broken in actual play by the challenges presrnted or chosen in the setting chosen and gameplay by the GM. Barring egregious degrees of out of whack (that rarely these days make it to print in professional games) the keys to balance comes from GM...

D&D General Why would a Druid want money in a “gold for XP” game?

First, why run a system that emphasizes frivolous gold spending with setting thst has dome classes eschew the civilization including currency value? Wouldn't it make sense to bake into each class a use for gold that makes acquiring it key for advancement in fiction? If your setting provides for...

Child abuse in regards to Dungeons and Dragons IRL, how should such things be handled.

All in all, I come back to my original advice and duggestion... "My suggestion to the OP and/or the host/owner is to discuss this issue with an attorney. Follow their advice."

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2e: Actual Play Experience

Did not mean to say anything about you GMing the no-ogres way. That was zcreference to the system or suggested method of treating the unit per roll as if it us an init toll and pretending it was not a perception roll causing a disconnect. In my games, if you are asked to make a percrption...

D&D 5E (2014) Is Charm Monster too good?

Ah so you are using thevgdnersl term Diplomancy as in the specific rpic level 3rd edition? Ok, do yeah then I guess that is right or not. I dont know cuz I had dropped e.5 and never adopted the epic levrl diplonsncy. But 5e does carry through diplomancy in the more general term of having social...

D&D General Compelling and Differentiated Gameplay For Spellcasters and Martial Classes

"The issue is not about potency - the ability to efficiently overcome challenges presented to the players by the PC - but about the ability to impact the fiction in distinctive, character-revealing ways." Tonight, the barbarian impacted the fiction multiple times. Tonight the ways the barbarian...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2e: Actual Play Experience

Well, to me it seems a bigger disconnect to say "in this scene you go first because of your high perception score/result" but then also say "but you havent seen a thing that gives you reason to go do anything". I like having initiative be perception based but it would seem to me that that...

D&D General Compelling and Differentiated Gameplay For Spellcasters and Martial Classes

Well, see, I think where we disagree is on choices. Anyone with strength can use shove and grapple to inflict grappled, prone or reposition a target (most targets). Choose feats and you get even more - like restrained - even free with attscks. Choose the right class or sub-class and either...

D&D 5E (2014) Is Charm Monster too good?

Well, within system, for a friendly character getting them to take high risk or sacrifice is a DC 20 check. However, as noted the GM can rule things as not possible or disadvantaged or assign other DCs as appropriate, plus time required etc. To me the more obvious and more likely approach...

D&D 5E (2014) Is Charm Monster too good?

Ok, so, the issue still stands, why would you think diplomancy is not a thing 5e is meant to include, see use, whatever "at all"?
