What etiquette rules do we assume is common in the community?

I did meet a guy called Michael Hunt once. I assume his parents hadn't thought it through, rather than being cruel. Needless to say, nobody called him Mike.

Fantasy AGE by Green Ronin: Anyone read/Dm'd or Played it?

I played in a Dragon Age campaign for a while. It was fun (even though most of us knew nothing about the setting, having never played the computer game) and a nice change of pace from the much more rules-intensive Pathfinder we usually play. I think the (comparative) lack of character options...

D&D General If A Noble holds 1 title per country in 2 neighbouring countries what can he do if those countries go to war?, after all no matter what he lose's

Yeah, but that was in Sark (population approximately 500). They do things differently over there ...

D&D General What ever happened to the Cavalier?

Pathfinder 1st edition treats the Cavalier's mount the same way as the Druid's animal companion, and it improves with levels the same way the animal companion does. You're probably still not taking it into the dungeon, however.

D&D General If A Noble holds 1 title per country in 2 neighbouring countries what can he do if those countries go to war?, after all no matter what he lose's

King Charles III is still Duke of Normandy, but fortunately there is no longer a French monarch to complicate matters. His Dutchy has been reduced to a tiny part of Normandy - just the Channel Islands.

Pop-up battle maps! What a great idea.

    D&D 5E (2014) Next years 50th Anniversary Adventure Speculation

That would be great. Whereabouts on the Sword Coast do you think they should set it :)?

D&D Movie/TV Dragonlancing TV show being worked on by WotC confirmed

And Caramon is way too tolerant of Raistlin's jerkiness (and ends up a drunken bum at one point, although that might be in the Twins books). Re-reading the series as an adult (or rather trying to and failing to get through it), I found myself disliking most of the "heroic" characters and...

D&D General Classic Monsters - Retired Roll Call?

I did once check a mimic for traps. It resulted in a fairly heated discussion with the GM as to whether that would have involved touching it with my hands. Only cost me a lock-pick in the end - I think my indignant defence of my rogue's professionalism won me the argument.

D&D General Classic Monsters - Retired Roll Call?

Oh, now you've got me wanting to use that description on an unsuspecting American. "Sausage, bacon, hash browns, ok, but what's that black thing in the corner?" "Pudding. You Americans have chocolate pudding, right?"

Case Studies in Intellectual Property: Dick Tracy

I'm only familiar with Dick Tracy from the Dick Tracy show cartoons, which were apparently from the 1960s but must have been shown on British children's TV in the 1980s. It seemed like false advertising to me, since Dick Tracy himself didn't do any of the work, instead delegating to an...

D&D 5E (2024) The impending mess that will be backwards compatibility

That reminds me of one time I played in a 1e game and turned up with my 2e players handbook. The DM wouldn't even let my (pre-generated, by the DM) wizard use the 2e version of Protection from Evil. I'd assumed he'd given the character that spell as a defence against the mind control powers of...

'Everything Is a Story' Inside Wyrmwood Gaming's Narcissistic Funhouse

Standards in journalism would certainly increase if all reports had to be exactly 14 lines, and rhyme. Might make it a bit tricky to do an in-depth article in the space allowed, however. I think the expression might be "purple prose", although I'm not sure how much it's used these days.

D&D General Everyday Arcana: An Interview with Dave Scott

D20 Modern did have a Menace Manual (plus plenty of d20 fantasy monsters to steal), but the d20 Modern line did fine without a GM's guide. I'm not sure what there is to put in an Urban Arcana GM's Guide. It's only really D&D that feels it has to have one (or several). Even the Pathfinder 1st...

Approaches to prep in RPGing - GMs, players, and what play is *about*

Pretty sure they didn't, unless they meant Shadow of the Century, which does use Fate Core.

D&D General Would you like there to be a new publication of Dark Sun?

Why not, as a matter of interest? I mean, if you only do homebrew then (almost) nothing on the Guild is going to be relevant to you, but if you run WotC adventures then the "guides" on the Guild are a great resource and the are lots of side-quests, encounters etc. that enhance the adventures...

    On "Illusionism" (+)

I would never run an adventure where the PCs will get captured whatever they do. (I have run a campaign which started with all the PCs in prison, but this was explained in advance and all the players agreed to it.) If I was a player in such a game, I would probably quit. I'm not sure I...

    On "Illusionism" (+)

Groups generally go along with what is needed for the adventure to happen, within reason. If all of your group have spent a long time on optimisation and tactics, do you expect the GM to do likewise? Or do you expect a "standard" difficulty adventure where you succeed easily? Usually the GM...

How would you make a canal city work as a fantasy RPG setting?

I also thoroughly recommend that book. It's certainly the best book I've ever read for insults which canal users might hurl as they cut each other up in traffic (unless the bit about "and your cows look so disappointed" was in one of the sequels?)

Player-driven campaigns and developing strong stories

There are lots of different RPGs and lots of different ways to play them. There are thousands of different RPGs out there, on drivethru and itch.io and other places. I don't think stories in RPG campaigns are overwhelmingly anything. It's perfectly possible to have a "player driven" D&D...
