Character Builder on a flash drive?

Hmmm... now this sounds like a fun little option. :) I'll have to look into this. Thanks for the suggestion. Well I'll be... If that's the case, then that makes things a lot easier! ... although I may still look into the Linux/virtual Windows option since I'm such a nerd anyway. ;)

Character Builder on a flash drive?

Yes, I'm quite aware of that, and I'm pretty sure that's illegal. I'm not looking for pirating options, I'm looking for mobility. Alternatively, can a basic (levels 1-3) version of Character Builder view files that encompass later levels, even if they can't edit them?

Character Builder on a flash drive?

Hmmm... I was afraid the answer would be something like that. Oh well. The main reason is to be able to view, print, and play with the character while I'm at my friend's house, since he doesn't have a dndi subscription. Instead, I guess I'll have to stick to third-party excel spreadsheets and...

    Roleplaying and Mental Health (Psychology)

I find this idea absolutely fascinating. I was a psychology major in college, so I'm quite interested in hearing about your findings. I've heard a ton of anecdotal stuff, both pro-RPG and anti-RPG, and I've long wanted an empirical study of the effects of TTRPGs. I wish I could make some...

Character Builder on a flash drive?

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but... For a number of reasons, I'm interested in having a portable version of the DnDI Character Builder. Does anyone know if it can 1) be installed on a flash drive, and 2) run independently from that drive?

    Improving Wizard Implement Features

Yeah, that's exactly the sort of thing I'd like to see. So let's start with the infamous at-wills. What sorts of effects might be applied to them? If you've seen other good options posted on these forums, please quote and link. For example: Cloud of Daggers: Orb: Targets that begin their...

    D&D 4E 4e Save or Die?

I like your idea that failing an unusually high falling save =/= death, but out for the encounter. Consider this house rule officially yoinked. Although I'd still deal the falling damage, so they need to spend healing surges afterward. In general, I'm not a big fan of save or die effects...

How do you cross-reference errata? (Forked from: Whats Errated that was Rogue Useful)

Forked from: Whats Errated that was Rogue Useful :) In the original thread, people discussed benefits and detriments to using the errata regularly (this post being one of the better articulated presentations of detriments). So, this makes me curious: how do you make cross-referencing errata...

    Backgrounds

I'll chime in with the list of voices who don't use backgrounds, mainly because it's just one more thing to keep track of and we have a handful of new players. I do, however, encourage rich background and character development, so it's handy to have a list of suggestions I can point to for the...

    Improving Wizard Implement Features

Fair enough, but in that case, I think the true key to versatility is abolishing secondary stat requirements altogether, or only having one. Had they done so, Wizards would truly be versatile, as they would be less likely to pass up, say, Thunderwave due to a low Wisdom score. As it is, all the...

    Improving Wizard Implement Features

As a thought exercise, I was wondering about making Wizards a little more like the other classes, in that their class features and secondary attributes actually make a regular difference in builds and in play. So, I wanted to begin by grouping implements with attributes and general power...

    Combat Challenge errata?

This is the latest update I have: Edit: That's all. Everything else should work as written in your PHB. It's possible they're confusing it with some Striker class features (I forget which) which were clarified to once per round.

    Using weapons as implements

Ah, very good point. Third try: Weapon Channeling Prerequisites: - Benefit: Choose one weapon with which you are proficient (for example, Longswords). Choose one implement. You may use the selected weapon as if it were the selected implement. You do not add the weapon's proficiency bonus to...

    Damage inc

Hmmm... well, I'm not sure of the RAW on this, but my first reaction is that, in order for there to be a hit, there must be an attack. So, you would not add this to any damage or damage rolls that lack an attack. I'm not familiar with Swordmage powers off the top of my head, so I'll try and...

    Using weapons as implements

? What Warlock dagger implement? If you're referring to pact blades, that's a specific enchantment, and I'm looking for a feat outside of specific enchantments. Also, I did intend this to be extended to "all daggers" or "all longswords." Given the potential for item turnover, I wouldn't want...

Unhappy Pally - Righteous Rage + Vicious Weapon

This is a discussion which might warrant forking to a new thread, but I'll say that I wish there were more weapon-as-Holy Symbol enhancements out there. As a Fullblade-wielding Avenger, I'm not a big fan of the limitation of this enhancement. I've considered some workarounds for my own campaign...

Errors from previous editions which got repeated.

Something else to add to my list: 3d rules. I like that the 2d battlemat concepts are easier to grasp, but it would have been nice to have a 3d foundation for all those flyers and pit hazards. As for the weapon discussion, I'm actually in the opposite camp of a lot of folks here: I would...

    Implement Focus and Energy Focus

I forget who off the top of me head, but a couple of people suggested two similar feats a while back that I nabbed for my own campaign. Weapon Focus is a +1/2/3 per tier feat bonus to damage, so I introduced Implement Focus and Energy Focus as non-prerequisite mirrors to that, feat bonus and...

Errors from previous editions which got repeated.

    1) My big gripe, which developed some time back in 3.5, was the disparity of skill feats vs. combat feats. It makes people who want to be the jack of all trades (e.g., a Rogue in one of my games) definitively less effective at combat than those who don't care one lick what they can or can't do...
