Do only DMs like rules lite systems?

When I DM, I do so as the benevolent, omnipotent god of the microcosm. If players call me out on a stat, I often have little more than some notes scribbled on a piece of paper to back me up. Does that creature have fire resistence? Well, I DID say it had a glossy, almost obsidian-black hide...

how to do mass/army battle quick?

    You can't roll a 0. 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8 = 36 36 / 8 = 4.5 Or, if you don't like doing lots of addition: 1+8 = 2+7 = 3+6 = 4+5 = 9 9*4 = 36 36 / 8 = 4.5 Or, graphically:Lowest Mid Highest 1 2 3 4 4.5 5 6 7 8

    Wizard Or Sorc.

I like sorcerers because they fit better with a wide variety of archetypes when multiclassing. Both classes have innate magical talent, but in the sorcerer this talent asserts itself naturally, allowing the character to be of ANY personality type, ANY profession, ANY mindset, and ANY goal...

War Mage plus Mage of the Arcane Order...

Ah. Complete Mage. I've stopped buying books, and therein lies my problem. I'll have to obtain the information by some other means, or continue to be ignorant (which actually suits me just fine) So, yeah, go drop $40 on a book and your player will have his "options". Or make something up...

    Charge attack -Ranged??-

What I'd like to know is where everyone is getting their magical rhino hide armor? I mean, geeze, are they on sale at Walmart? They may be priced cheaply, but they're specific armor, so I'm not even sure there is supposed to BE a "they"; it's just a single set of armor, making the prospect of...

War Mage plus Mage of the Arcane Order...

Good point, Thanee. That's one extra spell per spell level that he can more or less pick at will, depending upon how loosely you regulate the domains he can choose. Dare I say it, he COULD pick up levels in Mystic Theurge after 3 levels in Cleric. That would open up MANY more spell options...

What spells do you get tired of seeing wizard players take? Cliche's, etc.

Okay, so let's be creative here. Anyone who thinks it's not important enough to take magic missile, invisibility, fly, and fireball... please feel free to explain what useful and effective spells a wizard can take instead. Personally, I can't think of any. The rest of the spells in the PHB...

    Character Generation

Every player at the table picks one suppliment book, and may share the content of the other players' picks. It seems to work well enough.

    "Natural Leader" build

Hm, don't you have to already HAVE a base attack bonus of +1 to qualify for that prerequisite? Such that you wouldn't be able snag those feats at first level.

    An unusual druid build.

IcyCool, Jack Smith, that Heirophantic Theurge build is pretty impressive. I'd actually never considered combining those two PrC's to get 9th-level spells in two casting classes... interesting. If I go in a purely spellcasting direction, THAT will be it. However, I've been mulling over the...

    An unusual druid build.

Wow, I'd completely overlooked that little UA blurb. Thanks for pointing it out, iceifur :) But oooooph! That is a painfully weak set of abilities to give up wild shape for! Even if the gained power for a druid alternative isn't as gosh-darn versatile as wild shape, it should at least be a...

    An unusual druid build.

I've been toying with the idea of a non-shaping, non-summoning druid recently, ignoring the need for extra character sheets. I figure it would be fun to cut this very powerful class down at the knees, then think of creative ways to build its power back up to respectable heights. Now, it need...

    PHII Knight and Defensive Sweep

Where and what is the "Stand Still" feat? I am intrigued.

Improved Unarmed Strike and 2H weapons

But when do you make the choice to "wield" the weapon? How long does that choice last? And, most importantly to me, why follow rules that make combat so complicated? If you are absolutely correct, that's okay, because it's always possible to change the rules for a specific gaming group.

Improved Unarmed Strike and 2H weapons

Wait, so by holding a weapon in your off-hand while attacking with the one-handed weapon in your other hand, you incur the TWF penalties, right? And you can ignore those penalties by, say, holding the blade of the weapon in your off-hand, instead of the handle? Am I the only one who thinks...

Rake and Pounce confusion? [2004 Thread]

Wait, what? I don't see a goblin "impoved grab entry" in the MMv3.5

    Improved Natural Attack

Frankly, I'd allow it to stack if the player was not building himself a GOD AMONG MEN of natural attacks. A fairly average 1d6 attack (say... two of them, even) bumped to 2d6 with two feats? Oooo, he's getting +7 total damage on full attacks, assuming both attacks hit the target! And he only...

Rake and Pounce confusion? [2004 Thread]

So, I'm curious, what is the verdict on this topic? I've been searching around the archives for a while now, and few people seem to actually AGREE on how to interpret this sort of thing. Frankly, I'm confused, and all this time I thought I was grappling properly.

    Creating an Active Skill Focus

Now THAT is a feat I may consider. In fact, it would get consideration even if it were a +1 or +2 bonus. For, say, a leap-attacking build, I'd take "Skill Focus: Jump", even though I could invest that feat slot in something like "Power Critical" instead. I could see it being used by any...
