What is your favorite rpg/supplement for humor?

I've always enjoyed the Grimtooth's Traps series by Flying Buffalo. IIRC, there was thread around here just a few days ago, about number 5 of the series coming out soon. Some of of the Critical and Fumble tables found in Rolemaster products contain a bit of humor as well, at least the first few...

    Where do monsters come from?

I use very few Humanoid/Demi-Human races in my homebrew, and those few I do have fit into a justified ecological niche. Most pc encounters are with other people, whose purposes, aims, goals and actions at times are at cross-purposes with the pc's. This allows me to use social, political, and...

Officially the weirdest thing I have ever read

Ok, I'm confused, just what kind of humanoid reptiles are running around using shapeshift, to hide from the rest of us humanoids? I mean, are they Lizardmen, Troglodytes, or Yuan'Ti or exactly what? Yuan'Ti, sorta make sense because of the half breed references.

    DMG II: Buying?

Not only no, but HELL NO!!! Not with 24 years gaming experience (most of which is in the GM seat), ownership of the 1st ed. DMG, 2nd ed. DMG, 3.0 ed. DMG, 3.5 ed. SRD and all the "Basic" boxed sets. Plus a two years worth subscription to Dragon Magazine with other odd Dragon issue purchases...

    Character creation

As a player or GM, I like to have at least a simple backstory that helps to define a characters motives and personality. Hopefully (from a GM perspective) assigned character abilities and skills will be reflective of said backstory to some degree.

Best Gaming room and Game table setups!

I've got a spare room (for now) in the basement. At one time it was setup for a gaming/generalized library room, and it slowly became the catch-all junk room for the house. I have a large rectangular table down there and a 4'X8' piece of tile board on top of that, that I'd marked off in 1/2"...

    Crazy Combat

I once setup what I thought was a formidable challenge for a lower level (3rd to 4th) party during a 2e campaign. The party absolutely had to get to a small town several miles beyond this deep ravine/canyon. Fortunately there was a road with a stone bridge across said ravine/canyon (it ran for...

    Your original die

Alas my first set has long since disappeared over the years. They were a dark blue set of Dragon Dice. I remember using a needle to dig out the waxed in numbers and trying a different colored crayon, to see what kind off look I liked best, and finally stuck with green, though maroon was nice...

    Sharing a homebrew world

I feel pretty much the same way. The only way, I could share a Homebrew world with another GM, would require extensive collaboration designing the world. Then incorporate a lot of rules about what we could or couldn't get away with campaign-wise as GM's, to keep the flavor of that world. So...

What 1st ed AD&D Adventures are the Best? List them here!

I've owned (and in a few cases still own): T1, T1-4, the A series (as seprates), the G series (as seperates), D1-2, U1, B4, X1, have recently downloaded (within the last year or two) B1 and B3. I also own some sort of 2e 0-level module called Treasure Hunt (IIRC), and 3e Sunless Citadel plus...

    Fair warning??

Fair Warning when I'm feel like being nice to my players: The party runs into a first hand witness who saw the gray colored beam streak from the evil necromancers finger before striking the hapless gaurd who immeadiately crumbled to a pile of dust. As I always tell my players, turn about is...

    Your approach to rules

Normally i'll just make something up on the fly to keep the game going. If it's something I'll need to to remember for for frequent usage and will have a serious effect on the game, I'll take maybe up to a minute to look it up, or wait until I have time to look it up properly and implement the...

    castles in D&D

About the only use I've seen flying used for, is to cover vast amounts of distance quickly, not for assault on a stronghold. So as I now think of it, I've got a small issue to ponder as both GM and a player (one of my characters has the 1/2 celestial template has wings and can fly, while in a...

How to know your DM’s a Rat Bastard:

Actually, I wouldn't count this one as making the GM a Rat Bastard. Mr. Rogers was an Army Ranger in WWII, so ya' gotta respect the training his troops went through, because underlaying his polite mannerisms is one helluva tough, disciplined fighter.

    Pantheons-worldwide or local?

I use a bit of both. In my homebrew campaign I have nine Over-deities (Powers hereafter) and many semi-divine beings worshipped at the regional levels. At the top of this Pantheon is the Mother Creator (who is a neutral figure) followed by the her twin children (one male and one female...

Would your group stop a woman from joining?

I've nevger had problems with female gamers or any gamer based solely on gender alone. I prefer to play in mixed gender groups when possible. Though I have run into people I'd prefer not to game with based on style of play, all of whom so far have been male.

    Old Man Forward!!

I'm the oldest in the group I game with, at 36. Two others are 33 and one is 21 or 22. We have a 15 and 16 year old who join in occasionally and for the campaign I DM there is an additonal 33 and 13 year old.

    Oi! Get off my land!

I like to have some justification as to why an outsider or any other odd critters (for the region) show up for seemingly no reason. I find that a simple answer usually works best, such as The Insane/Evil Wizard/Cleric down the lane lost control over his summoned critter and said critter has...

    Unexpectedly Useful Items

I remember learning in Boy Scouts, the only two things absolutely vital to survival are a knife and some rope. From there a person who knows what they are about can fashion everything needed to survive off the land. Although I believe this to be highly debatable depending what the local...

How Close To "Real" Is Your World?

I prefer to use Physics (as we understand them) to keep things realistic as we would relate to them. Thus if the duration of Potion of Flying ended while a person is several hundred feet in mid-air, that would person fall to the ground and more than likely be dead, short of having a contigency...
