    Cheating?

I'm the GM, I can't cheat, what happens behind my screen, stays behind my screen. Usually I just let the dice fall where they may, but I tend to play fast and loose with the rules to keep the story going so sometimes those die results are other than as they appear so long as it's not at critical...

Amazon got KotS here on release day. . .

I recieved my copy of KotS today. I wasn't paying attention to the release date, as I wanted mine shipped with the 3 core books. Got notification it shipped on Saturday IIRC. Having looked through it only briefly so far, all I can say is the quality of the booklets is a big disappointment...

How many classes do you prefer in a RPG?

Hero 5th is the game that introduced me to point buy systems. I never got my head wrapped around all the info until I actually played the game, even then I didn't get how to optimize a character until after I had quit playing. I like the way class-based templates were handled by giving...

How many classes do you prefer in a RPG?

    Sorry. Double Post.

How many classes do you prefer in a RPG?

None, Zero, Zilch, Zip. I prefer games that utilize point-buy systems allowing characters to be built around skills and/or skill sets, like the Hero System (i.e. Champions) does. I'm none too fond of level based progression either.

    Lunar Eclipse

I work 2nd shift. So I kept going outside at intervals to see how it was progressing (my job put's few demands on my time in case you're wondering). Honestly, I wasn't impressed. It looked like the moon being obscured by heavy clouds or thick smoke, but without the presence of either actually...

    Tracking Time in Your World

I made my own calendar. 580 days a year (which are numbered similiar to ours), 16 five week months (four for each season) and a 5 day holy week between each season (or maybe the middle of each season, can't remember). 7 days to the normal week. Days consist of 30 hours, where an hour is 60...

    What geometry do you prefer?

I use the 1, 1, 1, 1 method for my campaigns, only because it's simple and easy to use when tracking distance of movement. I prefer the more realistic 1, 2, 1, 2, but don't like bogging my game down more than necessary. I normally play movement and facing kinda fast and loose to begin with...

Is EN World really DM World?

Yes, I am primarily a DM. For the 26 years I've been gaming, I filled the DM position almost exclusively (which I'm not sure how this has happened, certainly not because I was the only one willing or who knew how to). I rarely fill a player position and it doesn't bother me, being a DM is a...

    What's your game plan?

Mmmm, pie! I like pie, so that's my answer. I was using my own personal system before WOTC acquired TSR. I tried 3.x briefly after it's initial release and went back to my system. I'm pretty much the GM within my group and I've stuck to my system, though when someone else in the group want's...

    D&D 3.x Are you done with 3e?

It depends on the group with me. I've gamed with the same group of friends since 1991. I was done with 3.x as GM not long after it came out because I developed my own system for personal use prior to WOTC acquiring TSR. I tried 3.x, just didn't care for it over my system. I'm currently...

"Previously on..." - Recapping the previous session

I think my players memories are like sieves sometimes they barely retain anything at all, so a re-cap always begin our sessions. We meet every other week, so I know not a lot is always retained from between sessions, and it can get worse when RL kicks in and we miss a session or more in a row...

How much of your typical play time is combat?

Most of the campaigns I run end up being combat light, roughly 10-20%. My group consists of several long established players all in their thirties and their collective teen-age offspring. The older players have come to prefer less combat driven campaigns. The teen-age players prefer a more...

Which version of D&D for young children?

I would go with Basic/Expert as an initial system to introduce young minds to the hobby. It's simpler in that that there are fewer options (race and class combined, fewer spells, lesser number of weapons & armor to choose from, no feats or skills {except thief}) to have to keep track of when...

What's the name for a large group of marching soldiers?

I'm gonna quible on the size of Army unit's a just little more than Olgar. Where the terms in parenthesis apply to having served in the 2nd Cavalry. Squad Platoon Company (Troop) Battalion (Squadron) Brigade (Regiment) Division Corp/Army I believe that the Infantry divides a squad up into...

    . . . while you're at it. . . Fix heavy armor!

I’m in favor of a major revamp in the way armor works. I’m not a big fan of way the Armor = AC setup functions within the D&D game. Especially the way 3.x handled the Dex modifiers to AC, based on a suit of armor being classified as light, medium and heavy. Ideally (for me) Armor would...

    D&D 4E Alignment hint about 4E...or not?

I've never bothered with worrying about alignment in the games I run. So whatever and however it's get implemented in 4E, I'll continue to ignore it's existence.

Do you ever use "expendable henchmen"?

I can't say that I've ever offed any npc's to serve as a demonstration of deadliness for the players. But then I've never really had any NPC's that could be considered loose baggage to fit the demonstration role. Nor have my players been ones to employ the use of henchmen/hirelings. Though at...

Players, DMs and Save or Die

I'm usually a GM and I don't like save-or-die. Which is odd because I like to run grim and gritty style games where real world physics factor in heavily. Thus death from a venomous snakebite is out the door. I'd rather the venom result in some sort of handicap (typically as a mechanical...

New core races or canon half races?

I would prefer new core races. I'm not a big fan of half races, especially half-orcs and half-elves (IMHO a couple of fantasy tropes that can stand retirement). However, a couple side-bars on how to implement a half-race (one for half human and humanoid, and one for mutually non-human...
